Kosgei didn't "hold back." Did you see the look on her face? Either she's a great thespian, or that gal was hurting. I'm saying that as someone who was maybe two feet away as she ran past. She absolutely fell apart over the last 2k.
I'm not so sure about this. Looked to me that she realized she could not win and had a big enough lead on the other girls to back off a bit. Yes, I was there also.
I can't speak to what you saw or didn't see, but she went by me about 400m into that third loop, and she had a straight-up grimace on her face. It was obvious enough that I turned to the person next to me and said, "She's really hurting," and they agreed.
Check Jane's splits. She got slower each 2k loop. She was barely hanging on.
Barely hanging on is not the way any reasonable person would describe her race.
"Cruised" is not the way any reasonable person would describe her running 19:06 at altitude and winning by over 40 seconds over the NCAA 5k and 10k champion and World Cross Country Junior bronze medalist.
But I’m also bored on a Friday night so I’d say this is a successful troll thread
Clever! You used a lower case l to make it look like I wrote that. Good one.
What you don't realize is your lower case l is symbolic for the loss that Jane will experience next week. Hopefully she'll learn her lesson from losing.
Regional races are nothing more than prelims. Experienced runners like Pamela Kosgei know the goal is to advance with as little effort as possible. Kosgei held back because she was in a secure position and she knew her team was likely to qualify for nattys.
Jane Hedengren made the typical freshman mistake of running hard in a prelim. No reason to run as hard as she did. Completely unnecessary. She will probably pay for this mistake at natty next weekend.
Don't say I didn't warn you.
I also don’t have much knowledge on the subject given that I’ve never run D1 level but I love the attention my trolling gets. So far so good!
It doesn't matter about Pamela Kosgei. Jane's main opposition have been and will be Doris. NCAA X Country Champion and 5th place World Steeple, who was on her way to Bronze 🥉 until she tripped over a fallen Jeruto on the final water barrier.
Jane is a great talent and certainly better now than she was in high school but let's not forget that Doris is better also than last championships. She has the talent to win but so does Doris again.
Crazy, she just beat a 14:52 / 31:02 runner by 42 seconds. Now maybe Pamela was taking it easy, but sub 14:30 / 30:00 seems like a possability for Jane this coming track season.

Totally true that Doris is likely the better competitor, but lets not act like Kosgei, a 14:52 runner, NCAA 5k/10k champion, and World Cross Junior bronze medalist is that far off.
After watching Jane run today I now believe she is 100% capable of running sub 14:30 for 5000m, and likely much faster.
Womens race is 19 minutes and the recovery to National Champs is 10 days. If anything Jane will need to have at least one more brief sharpening workout before then. Running hard 10 days out is really a perfect setup.
For the men recovery a bit longer at 30ish minutes and more. Whole different plan.
This. It’s a very safe and easy bet to make that a true freshman will not win NCAA XC championships, it’s almost not even a prediction at all. So if he’s right, it’s like yeah okay man, what a great call. But if she wins, I would almost prefer that he does the disappearing act, but that has actually become less common for these types of trolls. What seems more likely these days is, she wins, someone bumps this thread, and OP doubles down and continues to talk about how his prediction wasn’t bad, or just shrugs his shoulders and says yeah I guess I was wrong, and never acknowledges how annoying he was about it.
It's not a very safe and easy bet. The vast majority of Lets Runners think it's a foregone conclusion Jane will win. There's literally a thread with people predicting her margin of victory will be 30 seconds or more. In this thread, people are saying she ran easy today.
Will YOU come back to this thread to apologize to me if she loses?
I won’t apologize to you, because you are being ridiculous, but I will bump this thread under my same handle regardless of the result.
This girl has been running crazy 6ks every time she steps on a course this season. This was a slower one for her. I think that you are overreacting.
Jane ran 19:06. "A rookie mistake, it was foolish to run so fast at regionals!" Doris ran 18:44. "Now there is a smart vet who knows how to hold back at regionals."
Shrug. People gonna see what they want to see, facts regardless.
