This is crazy.
On the Men’s side, I think Wanyonyi had a better year personally. Yes Lyles won two medals over 100/200 but he didn’t have an insane time outside the two 19.50’s and his races seemed more sparse than usual. He won 4/4 200m races but went 0/4 in 100m races. He did win one 60m race indoors at NB grand prix. He seemed to be missing some big moments other than the 200 at Worlds which obviously was fantastic.
Wanyonyi on the other hand opened up his track season by “effortlessly” beating the Olympic 1500m podium, already a huge moment. He did lose 3 times over 800, but in one of those it seems like he was content with placing 2nd (GST). He won 6 times over 800m, including at Worlds where he ran I think the closest race? He ran three times under 1:42 which is really rare I think in one season. I might be wrong but he is also the only person to win the WC immediately after winning the Olympic titles the year before. Lyles may win but Wanyonyi “wowed” me more tbh
