It just goes to show just how non-competitive distance running is. You see it alot in cycling also where the son of every former pro also makes it as a pro. How many former pro basketball player's sons make it to the nba? I could think of one. How bout in soccer?
I don't want to make this an NBA thread, but I'm not sure if you are trolling or ignorant. There are MANY father-son NBA players.
I was there rooting on friends kid from Conifer. Kind of a crazy dusty course that finishes on an uphill into an old horse or rodeo stadium. Fun to watch; parents were running through bramble and crossing gulches to see their kids. Weather was cool enough for fast times.
That's right! CO XC parents come to meets ready for their own workout
I remember the same complaints back in the day that “Colorado doesn’t run real cross country, Liberty Bell shouldn’t count, you don’t even use spikes”
The ground is very hard here, grass doesn’t grow well, we are in the Rockies, lots of rocks. These kids are racing at 6,000 feet.
Come run the course and see how easy it is!
Yeah, to be fair, Liberty Bell shouldn’t count. It’s basically a road race with a slight net drop, though probably on par with what kids would run at sea level.
State meet is a different story with, as others have pointed out, a creek crossing, a massive hill between one and two miles, and then a momentum sapping hill right after the creek crossing coming home right before the finish. All at greater than > 6000’. That’s what makes Horton’s time absolutely insane. And, frankly, Ritz Jr’s too. But, the weather was about perfect as I understand it as some years can be too warm.
Did Dathan get to see his kids run or was he in nyc?
He was at the finish in NYC hugging Obiri
NYC was on Sunday, state CC was on Saturday. In his instagram post, Ritzenhein said he was in Colorado for the state meet ("I even got a chance to sneak back and watch my kids crush the state meet!").
Colton Goucher is already 14? That's my "I feel old" moment for the day!
Pretty sure Goucher, Ritz, and most fast freshman are actually already 15. Not sure the bday months, but it seems pretty common with most sports these days. Feel a year older :)
