Oh and one of my favorite: Kim Gallagher a two time Olympic 800m medalist and former 800m HSR
I actually agree with you on like of Kim Gallagher.😁. Often forgotten with her 800 prowess was that she was a State champ and national class also at mile and xc in hs.
On your list of phenoms who go on to strong pro careers:
-This tends to work out better on the mens side, but not always.
-The ladies who make it are far more often 800 runners and below, not classic aerobic monster distance runners.
Decker, Syd, Mu, Gallagher
even Wiley, Cain and Cranny had good 800 speed at 17-18 yrs.
I am currently being ridiculed on this thread and will be some more before it comes to past. If Jane Hedengren stays healthy in the next few years hold multiple CR and AR. Just let her keep putting in the mileage and stay healthy, her talent will allow her to continually develop her endurance to the level of the top Africans.
To challenge the top Africans, it will take more than developing endurance and you can’t coach leg speed. Hedengren will never have the leg speed necessary to run 3:50 for the 1500m, like Chebet and Kipyegon can.
....
Then how did Almaz Ayana who isn't a kicker win Olympic 10000m GOLD by dropping at 14:30 second half off an already fast opening 5000m.
Or
How did she win World 5000m Gold dropping Genzeba 3:50 WR holder in the 1500m. Who had won 3 Diamond League 3000/5000m that year. Almaz "no kick" Ayana won by grinding out a 8:20 3000m to break Genzeba.
You don't need a kick if you can break your opponents or a least break enough to medal 🥇.
With her height and power, JH could be the female El Bakkali. That's a race where front running is not a handicap. It will be interesting to see what her best distance is.

....
I think her best distance on the track will eventually be the 10,000. At the moment the 5000m is her current best distance and I think she will run SUB 14:50 probably real close to 14:45 outdoors next year if she stays healthy.

But aren't you embarrassed that you can't even spell her name?
How about you stay in your lane and out of what I choose to discuss❓🤔
Of the all time top 10 high school 5000 meter runners, just 2 have ever gone on to make a USA track team. Mary Cain at 1500m and Emily Sisson in the marathon. Neither was a medal threat. The other 8 have dealt with long term injuries that have limited their ncaa and pro development.
Many are excited about Jane Hedengren, but are just cautious in predicting her college and pro results.
This is why I want to leave her alone. She’s so talented; she doesn’t need any more pressure. When Natalie cook came in 7th at ncaas as a true freshman a lot of us thought she was going to be the future of NCAA distance running and she’s more or less hasn’t done anything since.
Jane win conference title by almost a minute in 18:29.6 averaging sub 3:06 a kilo basically equal to passing 5km in sub 15:25. If Jane runs a good not perfect race at NCAA I see her only competition being Doris. Jane is much fitter endurance wise now than she was in her record High School Senior campaign. If she runs to her capabilities at NCAA I'M SAYING SHE WILL WIN NCAA X COUNTRY as a freshman.
Knew she was great but skeptical a bit of the hype before but after seeing her today I think the hype is deserved. Nobody could touch her. She just demolished the Big 12 as a true freshman and ran sub 19. I was actually shook.
Hundreds of poster's thought I was off bas about Kenenisa Bekele 20 years ago. Jane Hedengen is a similar talent, if she can just stay healthy she will make U.S. teams especially in 2027 and 2028.
Hedengren is a ridiculous talent. Sensational. The only HSer in her category (IMO) was Mary Cain. Cain was a bit better at 800/1500. Jane better mile and up.
I think its obvious that, barring injury, she makes a number of teams. I think a bit of patience is in order, but clearly Hedengren has all the skills needed for greatness.
I know we're not supposed to talk about this stuff, but it's the elephant in the room when it comes to young women going from 'prodigy' to world class level, and that is body type. JH simply does not look like someone who is going to suffer from the same issues Mary Cain did; JH looks like a white version of an East African when she runs, at least to me, and that is going to make a world of difference as she matures. Just my .02.
Maybe Jane will take down some WRs if it’s finally decided to get rid of all the dope enhanced distance records — 1500, mile, 3k, 5k, 10k, basically all of them. 😀

Did she break the course record? If so, who held it before her?

.... Reading is fundamental, it's on the internet... find it and get off the Jane Train.
