no "migrants" will harass you and a pickpocket won't try to lift your wallet, like in france. A lot of people in france disdain Americans too, funny because without us they would be speaking german. paris is overrated......
This kind of comments largely explains why so many people disdain Americans all over the world…
Are they preventing participation by runners from other countries? Reducing the carbon footprint of all that international travel will do more for sustainability than reducing waste created by recycled paper cups.
I've entered Paris Marathon but only recently saw the communications regarding no cups or bottles at water stations. This concerns me for several reasons, but largely bottlenecks on course around water stations causing accidents / delays to runners, runners not being able to get water if they need it (due to crowding, or if they have dropped their reusable cup/bottle and not noticed) and also asking runners to have to physically stop each time they want water. Has anyone else got any thoughts or comments on this?
I'm not sure logistically how this is going to work without large queues forming for water. There's a difference between grabbing a cup off a table and stopping to pour water into a bottle or cup as there won't be a large number of dispensers. Bad idea IMO. Also who wants to carry a cup or water bottle for an entire race?
They make it literally impossible to get any money back, even if you've taken out the cancellation insurance. they direct you to a website that doesn't work, has zero support and all emails are ignored. They owe by 160 Euros, but I've written it off as lost!
Truly a terrible event and one I hope folds and never happens again!

If they are so deeply concerned about prioritizing sustainability at the expense of people’s running experience, they should actually just cancel the marathon and even go a step or two beyond that: convince people not to run the marathon, and probably not to run long distances at all.
Long distance running requires so much consumption of excess calories (beyond walking for exercise a few hours a week) that the whole process creates a significant environmental cost from the farming required to produce those calories and the additional water expenditure to deal with the excess waste. More water use and detergent use in the additional washing of running clothes, too. These are crimes against the environment magnitudes greater than going through 250,000 recycled disposable paper cups or whatever.
