I’m 66 now, so yeah, old f***er, but Boulder was so much better back in the 80’s it’s not even close. I think a lot of younger peeps now are used to everything being so much more crowded and expensive it doesn’t register as much, but the difference between then and now is stunning. I was a bike racer back then, and you could ride up boulder canyon, peak to peak highway, left hand canyon, without billions of tourons buzzing past on every ride. Morgul Bismarck was phenomenal riding, now just massively built up. I lived with a cousin in an apartment on the creek and rent was peanuts; COL was still reasonable even accounting for the fact I wasn’t making much money. I was pretty cute bitd and all I had to do to get a girl was walk into the Sundown, grab a beer and sit by the pool tables, boom, didn’t even have to try. It was popular but not crowded AF like today, everything wasn’t built up like it is now where it seems the entire Front Range is one giant suburb. It was a piece of cake whipping up to Winter Park to get in some skiing and aprés at The Slope, not like now where it’s a giant parking lot on 70 going west just to get in a few turns, and just as bad or worse coming back east, and Epic didn’t own the whole universe. Can’t blame people; everyone wants the same thing, but I feel for 20 and 30 somethings now who will never know just how awesome it was in the last gasps of the olden days. Good times.
