Skin in what game? I've run in college, coached high school and collegiate athletes, still run competitively, work/have worked in sports media and sports marketing. And this has all been within the past 20 years.
I respect your opinion about the subject, but if you're going to question my credentials and say my opinion doesn't matter, please share how you have contributed or at the very least, participated, in the sport since 1985. Arguing for the sake of arguing on LetsRun doesn't count.
You're the one who's arguing for the sake of arguing. I'm giving a dose of reality that you can't handle. Having foreigners come to America for an opportunity of an education is 100% positive. It doesn't affect you are anyone you coach at all. Not one bit. Never has, never will. There's more to life than your precious college running experience you know. They get to have an education too, you know? Don't drown in the bin of jealousy-flavored koolaid. It doesn't taste good.
If you read my first post in this thread before we got derailed, I said I don't have a problem with international athletes. Just when the methods and criteria are unethical, which of course is based on my opinion.
Respectfully, no you don't. You finished 269th place at club XC nationals (7:26 mile pace), and recently ran a 24 minute 5k.
Ah yes, the anonymous poster cherry-picking times with no context whatsoever. You left out the part about doing both of those races (among others) 2 years or less after having twins. The 24 minute 5K was off little training and pushing my 2-year-old twins in a double stroller.
Now what was your name again?
You claimed you "still run competitively." You do not. There's no shame in hobbyjogging with your twins, but it is not the same as running competitively (and I'm not cherry-picking: the 21 minute 5Ks you ran last year aren't competitive, either).
I thought UTEP won. Maybe they had their title stripped?
You were correct. Lesson learned, Google and AI ain't what it's cracked up to be. 1. 88 UTEP Kenya and Tanzania 2. 92 Washington State Kenya 3. 183 Providence for fooksakes 4. 256 Penn State OH, PA, WV, NY, MD, NJ, MA 5. 268 East Tennessee State for fooksakes 6. 271 Western Kentucky GBR

I was impressed with your race there. You ran quite well for a fairly young guy. You must have been pleased at that time?
No they don't. Most kids start school when they are 6.
The reason I pushed back on you Malmo is you are incorrect here. Thoughtsleader is correct. And before you start arguing, Thoughtsleader is correct when he says most kids turn 19 between September and July of their freshman year in college. You said “no they don’t.” That is where you are wrong.
Nor have I heard people not consider kindergarten school before. Perhaps this is a regional thing, but the first day of school for me and everyone else I know was in kindergarten. And nearly everyone was 5 for it with a smattering of 6 year olds and a rare 4 year old.

Oh I see. English isn't your first language. Competitive refers to those who compete in races. As in run as fast as they can in a race, even when pushing a stroller. That's going to differ from person to person, but at the end of the day I train for and compete in races and have done so for 24 years. Not sure how else to define it. I don't claim to be pro/elite and never have, but I will take my longevity and consistency over burning out bright and being bitter the rest of my life any day.
The depth of that race was incredible. Malmo is 17th in 29:14 and there are a lot of well known names ahead of him. But Bruce Bickford (27:37 eventual pb) is 165th, Centro Sr (eventual 13:12 pb) is 175th, and future 2:10 marathoners John Lodwick and Kyle Hefner are 192nd and 224th respectively. And I have no doubt I am missing many others.

Not really. But thanks anyway. Being a late bloomer, I was 20 years old, physically going on 17. The one effup Harry Groves did was making us run the Eastern USTFF 10k race which we hosted every year the week before Nationals, completely unnecessary. Definitely taking the edge off of our steel. It wasn't so much that the race was unnecessary, it's who we had to race (and beat) -- Greg Fredericks, who won the AAU XC title that year in Annapolis. My mind was set right, even broke from the main pack to get after Ngeno and Kimeto by myself (3rd and 4th) from 3 miles, but faded late in the race because of my ambition. Groves should not have had us run that USTFF thing every year.
If there were even one single active running community/site with ~10% more moderation than this one, you'd never see me here again. r/AdvancedRunning comes closest
I would contend that runners like Alberto Salazar and Galen Rupp probably were better runners because they had some foreign runners to contend with in college, so I think to refer to a team as LetsRun certified as having no foreigners is really a bad look, and makes me question whether I want to associate with this site.
Top d3 teams will all be that…whether it’s a random Wisconsin campus or MIT
Generally true but not always. NYU is consistently a top team -- when the women got second at nationals in 2023 their top runner was a grad student from Ireland. NYU has also used grad transfers on their men's team. And last year's female national champion was someone from Wilmington College who was a transfer from D1 and completely dominated the field.
