"Long Distance Log" was probably the first running magazine and was in print from the mid 50s to mid 70s. For a while it was archived at the Roadrunners Club's website. It seems to have vanished now.

FWIW, along my Harrier collection, I kept a few 1970 issues of the long-defunct Illinois Prep Sports Special, a newspaper-formatted weekly out of Taylorville. Covered all IL prep sports. I kept those because of feature xc articles on then-sophomore Craig Virgin along with the guy who conquered Craig that season, forgotten man Dave Merrick, the best distance boy in America that '70/'71 school year.

You know nothing about modern D1 running. We're all sick of this "just work harder" BS from you boomers. What next? Are you gonna tell us to walk into the boss's office and give him a firm handshake instead of applying online? That should help us beat the other 1500+ applicants when Chat GPT scans the resumes right?

Yeah, we've heard it all a thousand times. No, a 17 year old American state champion can't and shouldn't have to "out work" 28 year old grown men from the world's doping capital to compete on his State U's team. I and many others are gonna fight like hell to change the rules, and in the meantime keep calling out these trite boomer platitudes for what they are.

I’m not sure how you concluded boomers think it’s fine and dandy. Some boomers are probably curious who is paying for these imported athletes in this non-revenue sport.

There are definitely many who oppose these imports and I welcome them to the cause, but most of the justifications I see for the practice cite a similar reasoning as the poster I responded to. That reasoning (muh protestant work ethic, just outgrind the Kenyans and Indian H1Bs bro) is peak out-of- touch boomerism. If you're a boomer who doesn't think that way I apologize, but you have to at least admit many of your peers do.
