Or Nigeria hasn't appealed because he knows it didn't actual impact him, and he's not a sore loser like the silver/bronze medalists.
I don't think he means it was crazy Nigeria didn't appeal, but crazy the other two DID if Nigeria wasn't appealing.
this. it was a ticky tack technical DQ, correctly overturned, and fairly cynical appeals by people whose hurdles weren't jostled but who could benefit on the medal stand.
baylor guy isn't appealing because it didn't affect his race and he knows it. and if you think about it, that's telling, because a single DQ puts ezekiel in bronze.
We’re talking about 0.05s. Even just having to waste mental energy to figure out if you can maintain your stride pattern and safely clear the hurdle or any hesitation coming from it could cost you that much.
I agree with this. If you said before the race to Rai Benjamin that one of his hurdles will be randomly placed at an angle by around 10cm he'd go nuts and refuse to race. Have you seen how obsessed hurdlers are about their stride pattern and technique? Especially on the men's side where the barriers are significant.
no, the vast majority of us have run 110s and 300/400s and either been the one tagging that last hurdle, or watched complete carnage occur and needed to jump the rubble, and just dealt with it. i won one of my first junior high 300H meets because the guy in first trashed the last hurdle, went down in a pile, and knocked my hurdle flat.
i think the rule is intended more for you hit the hurdle on purpose and it knocks mine in a less jumpable alignment, say, literally side on, or i am so close your mis-hit dominoes my hurdle into me and takes me out.
Just rewatched the race and there’s no reason that Benjamin should be DQ’d. Nathaniel didn’t lose any time on hurdle 10 and nothing would’ve gotten him the bronze

speculative. i saw no stutter or processing by the nigerian. you're conflating there are potential "what do i do now" situations that the rule might cover, with whether this is one of those.
i think this is intended more for the 110s. you used to have runners who almost planned on tagging a bunch of hurdles -- technique has cleaned a lot up -- you are on the next hurdle in a second-ish, and you can get swept up in their carnage.

Well, of course it’s speculative. We can’t very well know what would’ve happened if the hurdle wasn’t knocked unless you’re doctor strange.
I’m not arguing for a dq either.
I just don’t agree with the guy who said that this *definitely* didn’t affect who got the bronze.
i am curious whether it was the coaches or the athletes who appealed. you can see where the official result "on the field" was DQ, which they would not have appealed as it benefitted them. rai appeals it and gets reinstated. they then appeal that appeal.
Did any of you even watch the race??? Yes, the hurdle to his inside was moved, but it in NO WAY affected the athlete. You can watch it here, start at 3:10. The Nigerian athlete is in lane 6 in green, to Rai's inside (left).
Or you can watch it in slo-mo at 5:16. That didn't cost the Nigerian athlete anything.

he looked in rhythm to me, no stutter, no slowing down, goes through the hurdle solid and holdes his place. speculative is nice, there is no sign it slowed him down, and you're kind of arguing he was preparing to walk everyone down but interrupted. there is no sign of any of that.
to me i was trained to attack the hurdles and extend my stride if the situation required it. in the 300/400H you have some time to adjust. i think it's meant more for the 110s where it's an even more precise 3-4 stride pattern and inches would throw off that hurdle and the next and the next.
Being on a VPN protects yourself, especially being in a foreign country.
Agreed , I was in the stadium and use a VPN for projection. Using this will encrypt your internet connection, protecting sensitive data like passwords, banking info, or emails from hackers on public networks.
the dude should be DQ’d and everyone in the stadium agrees. And if you don’t think I was in the stadium ask me something I’d only know being there.

He had to overstride, which alone costs a couple of tenths. Bottom line Rai B knocked his hurdle off and should be disqualified.
i also think it's intended more as a punishment DQ for a race ruined and less to reshuffle a contested podium.
i like indycar racing. in that comparison, to me it's meant less for 2 drivers aggressively passing each other for position, and more for the guy who uses the chrome horn and pushes his opponent in the wall to end their race on the back of a wrecker.
that being said, "hocker" suggests this referee set is more open to ticky tack.

“If you knock a hurdle into another runner’s lane and it impedes their stride or progress, that counts as interference. Interference can lead to a DQ, because the race must remain fair for all competitors”
watch ezequiel's last few hurdles off the curve and then the final straight. every single one he has an awkward landing. which is probably why he's 4th.
you're straining. i didn't see someone who was thrown by the situation. i saw someone who at the end has to collect himself each time he hurdles. that's a technical or fitness issue. benjamin isn't flying open or having to rechannel himself back forward in a straight line.
