Sullivan should work with Jess McLean and the Japanese woman who uses her arms. For a while anyway. Maybe she's too used to running lone wolf style cause she has a real full-time job.
Can someone explain to me like I’m 5 why Sullivan is breaking away from the pack this early in the marathon? She is 35, never won a single marathon in her life, and it’s 83°f? Is the next Yuki Kawauchi?
She's running a constant pace that she believes she can hold the whole way (2:25) and the rest of the pack doesn't care because they figure they'll easily catch her later

If I were her, I would know by now exactly how hard I can run a marathon in these conditions, and I'd hit that pace and keep it, ignoring what others do. Likely overall better result than if she tries to tag onto a pack that yo-yos from one pace to another and then spits out her out the back with X miles to go.

She's tried this before. Really how else can you make an impact with women who have PBs 7 minutes faster?

It would be super cool to see her run away far enough that they couldn't catch her, but she's (at least) 75 minutes from that point, if not more. I can't believe the speedsters would make that mistake, but there's a non-zero chance of it, so why not make the run?

Pleased to say I am watching the international feed with the international commentary; I am afraid the Australia SBS was someone difficult to listen to. Spoilt as two networks are covering the WCs. One using the international feed and one who normally is ok commentary wise providing their own commentary - the marathon is just too much.

Can someone explain to me why Molly Seidel, with a PR of only 2:25 and only two marathons run in her life, decided to run with the leaders in Tokyo in 2021 when it was 84°F?
