Jakob's heat is also pretty hard with 6-7 guys who you'd expect to qualify for the semis.
Excuse me??? Only 2 other guys in his heat have ever broken 3:30? Not sure what you or your 13 upvoters are seeing that I'm not.
As I explained already, reaching the semis, even winning the finals doesn't necessarily have anything to do with having ever broken 3:30. Or even 3:35 for that matter.
The whole thing is a farce, and it can only end when these die-hard apologists turn away.
This is a reasonable take. Not sure why you are being downvoted. Mo Farah showed that with great miler speed you can be unbeatable in the 5000/10000. Ingebrigtsen has shown that he is far better in the 3000/5000 than the 1500. That may extend to the 10000 in terms of championships.
It's a semi-reasonable take, but my point was that if guys like Gourley and Nader (extend that list to Tim C, Kessler, Nielsen and many more) are not being told to quit the 1500, there is absolutely no reason Jakob should abandon it. Yes, he's very vulnerable in 1500 championship races. Yes, he has more accolades in 5000 championship races. Yes, his most impressive PB/WR is the 3000. All of these do not contradict that he still has a good shot in the 1500 (maybe not this year), certainly better than the aforementioned guys, and probably on par with guys like Kerr and Hocker (certainly with someone like Nuguse).
Also, we really don't know how he'd fair in the 10000 and he's still racing the 5000, so I don't really think this take is very good.
Luckily, Nader skipped reading the message board this week, otherwise he'd know he should have retired after his sub-par performances against Jakob over the years!

not really.
the 1500 is suoer competitive while the 5000 has much less elite talent.
jacob despite front running tactics which allowed the opposition sit and kick wins, the 1500 is his best event , that said, the 5k may righy be his best distance,
right now there ls little hope to win in on the 1500 withous peaking and tine up, and the result has nithing to do with potential.
if i were jacob, and the body agreed, id take on laros and fight to the death for the WR.
people calculate how you can appear tobe the best and with legacy , by picking spots, and win in the weaker event

Jacob should focus on the 1500m and aim for the world record if his body allows, rather than taking the easier 5000m just to chase a win in a weaker field.

I agree—the 1500 is stacked and brutally tactical, while the 5k has more room to dominate. If I were Jakob and the body allowed it, I’d go straight at Laros and chase the WR head-on; that kind of fight defines greatness more than carefully picking softer events for safer wins.
Breaking: Jakob may not run the 1500m at Worlds 😳 Huge shake-up if true. Fans were ready for another classic showdown. Even checking my 7 brew gift card balance feels less stressful than waiting on this update.
