Bump.
Has anyone found odds online on whether he will break the wr this summer?
I think he has a chance, maybe 20-30%. There are thousands of hs boys that improve by 1.5% each year just by maturing with no major changes to training. That is like a 2 flat guy running 158 the next year. Obviously the margins become much slimmer at 142 vs 2 flat. He has already shown the normal teenage boy improvement from one year to the next based on his two indoor races.
If he can run an open 400 in the spring in about 45.6 then I would bump his odds up to 30-40%.

Hopefully he gets in the right Diamond League race this summer with the right pacers and Wanyoni.
Maybe the first time we see a sub 1:40 there will be two guys under and one of them will be the answer to a great trivia question.
Don’t worry, nike is cooking up some better shoes.
I think it's time to bring this thread back given his world indoor championship, and season as a whole.
I still can't believe i'm saying this, but he really could break the world record this spring. Where does he go from there? I remember Rinaldi wrote a great post on here about the most realistic strategy for breaking 1:40.
It’s quite simple how to break 140.91, you run 1:40.90 or quicker! It will either happen or it won’t- calm down folks this isn’t rocket science after all.

It really is absolutely nuts when you put it that way.

We're getting ahead of ourselves, but another thought I had is that if Cooper breaks 1:40 in his career, he would be the first athlete to run 20 seconds faster than 60 second per 400m pace
If he were to run 20 seconds faster than 60 seconds per 400 meter pace, he would run 800 meters in 1:20.
Cooper is VERY talented, but that's, um, "unlikely to happen".
