Athing should go back to her 400m roots how is it possible for a Sub 50 runner to have ran the event just once after winning the 800m at Tokyo. Mind boggling for Kersee bc he doesn’t want her to race against Syd smh.
NO, she NEVER said she loves running. Your reading comprehension of that recent article is very bad. She said that she wanted to rediscover a love for running, NOT that she had ALREADY rediscovered the love for running.
You invented the whole "she said she loves running" in your own mind because you were hoping that it was true. Please learn how to read better.
Perhaps....
Up top. She said what you are talking about.
But I think most importantly this year, it’s just me regaining my joy back and finding my love for the sport. And if it’s not love, just appreciation for the sport and the places that I get to take me, and it’s just all that I get to do with it.
So that makes it sound like she doesn't love it but is trying to at least appreciate what it does for her. But later on she, said this:
But for me, it wasn’t too bad. I think mentally was the biggest thing for me, just because a lot of the joy comes with like running, and so not being able to compete kind of takes away, and a lot takes me a step back from just my normal environment,
Wouldn't be surprised if that's it for her and she just retires.
Are you serious? Do you realize how much money she can make if she's on?
That was horrible. Bobby had better turn it around in the next month or she may be looking for a new coach.
She said she loves running. That's the key.
THe thing with the 800 is you normally need A LOT of reps. 1500 fitness and 800 sharpness are not the same. I can't believe i picked her to win this on the podcast.

She has said she loves running, although im not getting that impression. The way she's going,i wont be surprised if she retires, and has children soon.
A 1:54 800 runner is training with 56 or 57 intervals for 400 and similar pace at 300, 500 and 600. If that is true, it is not possible for Mu to come out and look that bad and slow the entire race. Whatever is going on with her—and I wish her only the best—she is not training at world championship level.
It looked like she was trying to race it seriously until the last 100 when she gave up. Still ran on the very outside of lane 1 on the final turn despite being gapped in last by more than 5 meters.
Painfully obvious that the main issue is Kersee’s training. He is a legend, literally has coached an Olympic gold medalist in every sprint/hurdle event (100m through 400H plus his wife in the hep), but he is out of his depth here. You can track Mu’s decline linearly from when she left Mallard.
She said she loves running? Uh, and? People can and do say anything - especially to fit a narrative they think they need to uphold. Lip service is the easiest thing there is. She looks MISERABLE. She looked miserable at the trials last year, she looked the same today
Great post. She says she loves running in the interview but I am skeptical. If there was no career, no sponsor, no glory, would we still run every day? Yes. Many of us would. We simply like it.
Yet I doubt training/running is what Athing wants to do every single day. Is she truly amped for the next chance to race? The next chance to put in a huge training block? I doubt it.
Without that intrinsic motivation, even the most talented person in the world (which she might be!) is not going to be competitive at the highest level.

The craziest thing is he said he doesn’t like them racing at 400 because of the effect on him. Absurd, and borderline coaching malpractice. Especially as she seems to be suffering from the yips why not give her the equivalent of a simulated spring training game by racing in lanes. Everyone expects SML to win including Mu, it is not a thing. She wasn’t ready for the 800 at that level.

Imagine you were in a marriage with someone and she said, "I am staying with you and it might not be love, but I am trying to find appreciation for what we have..." That is someone who is trying to talk themselves out of getting a divorce.
Athing doesn't love it. She is trying to "appreciate" what it gives her. That is not enough and will never provide enough motivation to do what she has to do to run 1:55 (which is the new normal for women's elite 800m running).
Is this Kersee guy out of his mind? Why would you make a front runner who destroyed all her competitors time and time again, run in a pack? All you have to do is point to the finishing tape and say "go". Kersee turned a guided missile into a pool noodle. What a joke!
She is never been the same since her split with Brandon Miller frankly! Sometimes people you hang out with can make you better or worse! Look at Sha’cari, she looks more mature now with Coleman but performances went down. Sometimes in life, you need to find people that can bring that dog out of you!
More importantly, USAs are 4 weeks away. She said in the interview she needs to work on strength (endurance). There is not enough time to fix endurance problems, assuming she even wants to do the work. This isn't her comeback year. She is EXTREMELY unlikely to make the US team.
Here me out. What she needs isn't necessarily a new coach or change of scenery, but some cognitive therapy and hypnosis. I'm convinced she didn't lead the pack and was in the back the whole time because of deep-seated trauma and PTSD of tripping and falling from the front. This isn't something that can be fixed in a month. First, she needs to be comfortable leading a pack in a crowded city in everyday life. I bet she avoids situations where lots of people are behind her, fearful that she will trip over someone behind her.
I was predicting 2 flat because she was only in around 202 shape when she ran that mile a couple weeks ago also her word salad press conference indicated she was not ready to run
i think she only running at this point out of obligation
she talks about endurance but she was behind from go. i was watching the first 100, seeing her already falling way back by 50 meters in. she was never in it.
maybe i was watching the wrong thing. that was my first impression.

You are right. She was never in it. She tried to run in the pack, that's fine, but it isn't her style. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the fitness to run her race. Her race is to lead and make everyone suffer. She isn't able to do that right now, so she has to try to hang on in the pack. That is not a strategy for success for a runner like Athing.
Wouldn't be surprised if that's it for her and she just retires.

Based on how she ran just 2 weeks ago I am not sure how you picked her to win a dl race
US nationals are less than a month away and she doesn't have a buy to Worlds. I'm not ruling out her making the team. If she didn't run in lane 2 and jjust give up the last 100 she probably could have run 2:01. Maybe 2:00. An 800 runner can easily improve 2 seconds in a week or two if they are unsure of themselves, just by ripping some hard reps.
I agree but I don’t think there enough time to get better that 1:58 high
sometimes a 1:58x in the finals can get you top-3 but you need to be in 1:57x shape to cruise through the rounds
