She mentioned she’ll be racing the Sunset Tour in about 4 weeks. That’ll be a good measurement. She’s already “A” qualified for the Trials, so she can let one rip at the Sunset Tour to REALLY see where her fitness is.
Not it doesn't. She has been racing for 10 years and hasn't really improved in 5. High school girls are faster. There is no chance she qualifies. And that is with Monson and Valby out.
This is why Tuohy will never make a team. Five out of seven below are younger, five out of seven already have faster PBs, six out of seven set their PB in 2025 (Valby is injured), five out of seven have already run sub-15, and all are on an upward trajectory.
Tuohy ran 15:37 as a fifteen-year-old, and seven years and 22 5000m races later, still hasn't broken 15:00 yet. Even if she does somehow manage to break 15, who cares? The people making teams are running 14:45 or faster. It might take sub-14:30 ability to make the 2028 Olympic team.
The number of US sub-15s by year has been increasing dramatically - 2018 (1), 2019 (2), 2020 (8), 2021 (10), 2022 (6), 2023 (8), 2024 (9). There are already 11 in 2025 and it is only mid-June. Sub-15 hasn't been relevant since 2019.
And there are ALWAYS more young runners on the rise. Who knows what Blade, Leachman, Noe, Hutchins, Ritzenhein, and many others will do in the next couple years.
Tuohy – Age 23 (PB 15:03.12 – May 2023) Hertenstein – Age 24 (PB 14:56.33 – January 2025) Halladay – Age 23 (PB 14:52.93 – April 2025) Hedengren – Age 18 (PB 14:57.03 – April 2025) Hartman – Age 21 (PB 14:58.11 – May 2025) Scrimgeour – Age 21 (PB 15:05.40 – April 2025) Kennedy – Age 20 (PB 15:10.71 – March 2025) Valby – Age 22 (PB 14:51.44 – June 2024)

I am not a Tuohy above everyone person truly...
but this sport is so doped up and crazy--watching massive improvements from some of these women is what makes it impossible for Tuohy to be successful. We won't ever know what true progression looks like.
I assume you intend current ages but some will "age" soon. Tuohy – Age 23 (PB 15:03.12 – May 2023) Hertenstein – Age 25 (PB 14:56.33 – January 2025) Halladay – Age 23 (but 24 7/1) (PB 14:52.93 – April 2025) Hedengren – Age 18 (PB 14:57.03 – April 2025) Hartman – Age 21 (PB 14:58.11 – May 2025) Scrimgeour – Age 21 (but 22 8/11) (PB 15:05.40 – April 2025) Kennedy – Age 20 (PB 15:10.71 – March 2025) Valby – Age 22 (but 23 9/27) (PB 14:51.44 – June 2024)

It's a shame the sport is such a rotten disaster.
The most massive improvement is Hartman going from a 10:24 PR in HS to sub 15 in three years. You also have Napoleon going from a 9:54 steeple to 9:16 in one year as a soph. They both train with Tuohy.
Yes, I used current ages but the statement still stands that all but two are younger than Tuohy (Hertenstein & Halladay).
If you look at the runners who made our 5000m teams the last five champships, these were their PBs at the time they made the team. It has taken at least 14:52 ability every time since before Covid.
2024 Olympics St Pierre - 14:34 (gave up spot) Cranny - 14:33 Schweizer - 14:26 Valby - 14:52 (gave up spot) Morgan - 15:02
I was at the meet. She didn't look overweight at all. The noticeable thing about how she looked was that she was ripped. She was by far the most muscular of the women in that race.
My wife was the one who commented on the wide arm carriage and jacked shoulders. So no, not "overweight" at all in the usual definition. She just looked very, very strong.

This is all very nice info. Touhy will apparently just have to run faster in the usatf meet.
She looks really bulky. She can run 15 low but she ain't running 14:30.
After last year's loss to Josette Andrews, she stated she would try to build strength with the end goal of improving her kick. So yes, she has been working on it and it shows, but I'm assuming she was hoping for a close faster than 68. My guess is by the trials you will see some of that bulk gone...
Thanks for sharing! She sounds happy, she was giggling, she seems to have found the joy back! Listen to her interviews over the last 3 years, she hardly smiled, sometimes appeared tentative. She's on the right track (no pun intended).
