Brosnan haters been real quiet since this dropped.
What does today's result have to do with Brosnan? This is why people can't stand him. How is he taking credit for a race someone ran, more than 5 years after coaching him?
I bet his PE teacher's haters are real quiet since this dropped. I'm sure his Camarillo Cosmos coach is feeling total redemption as well.
We're clearly in a new era and yes, the record books are being rewritten. But if you think this excitement is just about the time on the clock, you're missing the essence of racing. This is particularly exciting because we have some home-grown talent winning against some of the world's best, and on a big stage.
Yeah, what’s not to like. Wiping past US legends off the lists and, at the same time, getting US runners running what the world elite were running back in the hay day of EPO use without blinking an eye! Can’t wait to get all those lousy non-bouncy shoe times off the list for good. Know what I say: If ya can’t beat ‘em, develop some fancy new technology that gives you a 20 second head start. Bouncy shoes unite!
Here's an updated age and PB comparison of Nico, Rupp, and Fisher, which I initially shared in the thread announcing Nico's addition to the Oslo field.
This shows how Rupp, Fisher, and Nico compare in their PBs at 3k, 5k, and 10k starting with the years they turned (YTT) 18, with the caveat that Rupp didn't have super shoes and wavelight before his transition to the marathon, and Fisher didn't have them until his early to mid 20s. The fastest in each event for each year is in bold.
YTT 18: Rupp 8:03, 13:37, 29:09 | Fisher 8:32, NA, NA | Nico 7:56, 13:44, NA
YTT 19: Rupp 7:49, 13:37, 28:15 | Fisher 7:50, 13:30, NA | Nico 7:56, 13:22, NA
YTT 20: Rupp 7:49, 13:37, 28:15 | Fisher 7:50, 13:30, NA | Nico 7:56, 13:11, NA
YTT 21: Rupp 7:49, 13:30, 27:33 | Fisher 7:48, 13:30, NA | Nico 7:37, 13:11, NA
As I wrote before: Even taking into account today's tech advantages, it's amazing to see how far Nico has been ahead of Rupp and Fisher at the same ages.
And now, Nico is faster at YHT 23 than Fisher was until this year, YHT 28.

Teare, Young, Blanks, Fisher, Mcgorty, Kincaid, Nur, and possibly even Hocker? Crazy.
All extremely aided by technology. The sport is ruined.
It’s not ruined but we certainly need to put things in context. For instance, the 12:56 that Ritz ran over 15 years ago is more impressive than this 12:45. And the 12:58 that Kennedy ran 30 years ago is better than both. But 12:45 with any tech advancement in a stacked field is still impressive.

According to who? Ritz was a distant 3rd in his race, Nico just beat a world class field while closing in 55 to win a Diamond League (Which Ritz never did).

Exactly. Improved training methods aren’t getting attention, never mind Nico simply being faster in HS before super-shoes. Give the kid his due, Nico won the friggin’ race against a stacked field and we saw three Americans break 13:00.

What was up with Mehary trying to stop Nico from passing with a few laps left, elbowing him repeatedly? Then walking by him at finish with no acknowledgment? Not cool.

Just trying out this hot take but… is the 5k team going to be even harder to make than the 1500 team? Young and Fisher appear to be as formidable as Hocker/whoever is #2 (Yared prolly) and then throw in Blanks and Hocker and others in 5k picture too.
The men’s 800, 1500 and 5k teams are going to be nuts.
A team is only as hard to make as the third best guy. In this case you are comparing Kessler to Blanks.
1500 will still be tougher. But 12:48 being the new bar is crazy.

Funny I was about to post about Rupp. Regardless whose faster at what age, Rupp set the standard for American men being competitive in the world at the distance events.
Rupp is training within Nico’s camp as seen in the video on YT about 5 months ago. One has to wonder if he’s been building on that fitness what can we expect of him when he toes the line to race 5k at Portland track fest. I’m not saying it would be anything mind blowing but why else enter a 5k being a marathoner. If he’s been healthy the last 5 months then we definitely should see something solid out of him. Under 13:20
That is so awesome! Without the shoe advantage that is really close to being up there with Ritz. Maybe not as fast as Solinsky's time - but Nico is so young - he for sure will get there. It is exciting to see what this new generation will be able to do. I also like how competitive they are in the races. Ritz and Solinsky had great times but struggled in championships.
Solinsky finished at his best 3rd (to Tariku Bekele/Merga) and 5th in Diamond League. Even with time inflation, this is a better performance than Solinsky ever mustered. It's imprecise, but around 1.5s per Kilometer seems about right at these speeds.
I can see both Nico and Grant be a GOLD medal threat now in the 10k. Nico just didn't beat them. He beat them convincingly in their own game (DL). In the 5k though, there's still an insurmountable barrier called Jakob ingebrigtsen.
