Yes! That was my favorite race of the season so far. Ngetich's style and heart are so wonderful, and them being within a meter of each other for the last 200ish was super exciting.
They must have taken the feedback and gotten rid of that hobby drone clown and hired a real drone pilot with a real drone. Got a glimpse of it and it's about 1000 steps up from the ridiculous toy they were using in Kingston.
GST again proving that, for whatever reason, it's very hard to create an interesting sporting event out of thin air.
For the men's short distance in particular, the format just isn't really working. Must be tough for Kerr and Hocker to keep running these 800s and not even be a real part of the race (at least Nuguse is beating them).
The other thing that's clear is that it's not interesting to watch the same races over and over. This problem is particularly acute in running where there is very little randomness in performance. At least with team sports or golf there is enough randomness for the event to play out very differently every time. But even with those sports, scarcity matters—I'm decidedly less interested in watching Hocker/Kerr/Nuguse now that I've seen it 5 times already this year.
Weird statement to make mere minutes after we got a big upset in the women’s 200m.
I think having a different group of challengers each meet keeps it feeling fresh. Having Hoey and Kessler added to the men’s middle distance group significantly increased my interest level.
Andrews and Cranny go home $30,000 and $20,000 richer.
Actually half of that. 15000 and 10000
Regardless, Norris has to be thrilled with that. Just beat Cranny and Kelati in a tactical 3k. Bodes very well for her chances to make her first outdoor team.
The long distance group will be gone next year. Doubling simply doesn't work for them and there's no point having a single 3k or 5k as it blows the format of GST. Sucks for the distance athletes, but they have opportunities on the roads to make money.
