Jacob is also a bit stronger than all of them based on his 3000 WR, Aregawi is close however, he closed in 59 vs Jacob 55, which means of course his tank was low at the ball...
In an all-out 3,000 sure. But the question is about a tactical 5,000, where the limiting factor for these guys is often how fast they can run the last lap, not a question of their PBs in an all-out 3,000. Jakob can drop sub-26.5 last 200s off of these slow paces and a 27pt first 200 on the last lap whereas his rivals in the 5,000 simply can't maintain and then up the tempo like him.
They’re not as fast as him. They can barely break 1:48 in an all-out 800 (some might not be able to), and now you’re asking them to run a 1:50 or faster with a massive negative split to close a race after 4200 meters. Not gonna happen.
I would love to see Grant in this, if his hamstring was only temporarily tweaked.
Grant will need a week or two for the hamstring to heal -- which provide him a much-needed break between his post-indoor break at the end of February and USAs starting July 31st.
He's still committed to the final GST/LA meet then the Pre Bowerman Mile a week later, health permitting.
Just a hunch: Grant's first attempts at outdoor WRs will come in 2026, starting with The TEN next March, other distances later in the year following his GST commitments.
However, a Grant heir apparent, Graham Blanks, is racing Oslo . . . and have a petty shrewd hunch Nico will there as well.

Agree with you on Grant Fisher. He will not have time to get to Europe and then back for LA GST and then have Pre after. That would not set up well for him. I think Nico will be there and not sure on other Americans. I think Blanks will have a good race there as 5k is a better distance for him and he is very good when the pace is hot.

Nico stated in his post-GST/Philly race interview his next races will be in Europe.
He was coy when asked which meets -- likely due to ongoing appearance/performance fee negotiations -- but this all but confirms he will be racing the WR-attempt-Oslo 5000 race on June 12th.

He's certainly not in WR shape though...why fly all the way out to Europe to run a fast 5k when you have BU time trials?

If it was a much needed break, he didn’t need an injury to take one.
Young is currently better than Blanks and deserves the Grant heir apparent designation.

Somehow I think being enrolled in college and at sea level - let alone at a school like Harvard - is less conducive to high performance running than being a pro at altitude.
Grant's professional similar-age peers include Joe Klecker & Sean McGorty, both of whom have beaten Grant at USA champs up through 2023.
Since, however, the latter duo have seen their careers flounder to an extent due to injuries -- while Grant's has skyrocketed.
Graham & Nico -- and Parker Wolfe -- comprise the new, young cohort of US 5000/10,000 distance runners trying to dethrone Grant and the "old guard" which would also include Drew Hunter & Woody Kincaid. We'll find out how this plays out a couple months from now at USAs.
Graham & Nico & Parker may seem like they're joined at the hip for the next 10 years, constantly competing for US titles and global medals.
Nico certainly has the upper hand at this point.
However, when Graham & Parker get their pro careers established and have spent significant time at altitude, expect the performance gap between them and Nico to close significantly.
He's run the 5k only 5 times in 5 years. If he wasn't regularly running the 1500 we would think he was Makhloufi.
Yes.

Dumb's summation of all of this: He has raced the 5000m just 5 times in 5 years.
What would be the forum without such a class act?
Well, that's good to know. He's raced the outdoor championship distance more than once a year in the last 5 years. So about 1 and 1/2 times each year on average. There are hobbyists who run it more often. Less than two 5k races each year in 5 years. Is that a professional athlete? Of course - he's actually a 1500 runner.

Yes, a professional athlete. The most successful in men's distance running in the last decade.
Yes, a "1500 runner" who is one of the most successful 5000m runners ever.
