Filip said much the same sort of thing before Jakob's HM attempt.
– It might be a bit long. This is how Filip Ingebrigtsen summarizes the half marathon that both he and his younger brother Jakob Asserson Ingebrigtsen will run on Sunday. For the running star is venturing into uncharted waters when he races the 21.0975 kilometers through the streets of Copenhagen. Ingebrigtsen has never run more than 20 kilometers in his life, and never more than ten kilometers in competition. Now big brother comes with a clear warning. – If he stays with the good guys up there, I think he might have a bit of a tough time at the end , says Filip Ingebrigtsen to NRK. Watch the Copenhagen Half Marathon with Jakob Asserson Ingebrigtsen on NRK1 from 9:30 a.m. Sunday. He also makes a prediction that it's fifty-fifty if his little brother crosses the finish line.
Thank you for putting facts to this particular subject. As with so many other subjects here, someone makes up a lie or states an opinion that they state as fact, and it continues to be propagated.
Because even being sick he may medal. Why are you so concerned with a professional athlete's will to compete?
I'm not concerned with his will to compete; I simply don't accept the bs that he comes up with to excuse his poor performances and that spouted by his simple-minded fans.
For almost any of Coe's defeats during his prime, there was some sort of injury in discussion.
everybody has the right to their own opinions, but when a poster goes out of their way to be one of the most abrasive and combative posters on the website, you won't find many to quibble over whether they're lying, just wrong, or otherwise.
And I won't call him a liar. But I'll defend the right of the guy who opined that he did.
But your problem then is that I could call you a liar. Because you present Gjert’s prediction (sub 60 min Hm) as a current one, when it’s 7 years old, and skip the firm probability of Gjert seven years later would have upgraded Jakob’s abilities to significantly faster… (See link).
Do you really want us posters to call each other liars because of errors or a different focus than preferred by one self?
Yes, Armstronglivs is confrontational, and most posters on these Jakob threads don’t like that. And I think it’s revealing when most here can’t laugh of Armstronglivs’ word play “loaded” (I laughed a lot, despite disagreeing with him). And I personally also think most posters (including myself) need to be challenged, and learn that one doesn’t have to fall apart because of meeting opinions we don’t initially agree in.

you might want to re-read the thread. It's armstrong who first brought up Gjert's prediction, saying he had confused Gjert's comment for Filip.
Armstronglivs registered Follow Block #34 11 hours ago 03/12/2025 12:15am EDT re: justanothercuriousdude ReplyBack To Index It appears I got the wrong relative. It was his father not Filip. Here is the thread it was in: "Father of Jakob Ingebrigtsen believe Jakob could run a half-marathon under 60min under an interview lately"
I have to add this: Yes, both Filip and Jakob talk about worse case scenarios. But neither of them are even close to how bad it turned out: Not being able to finish f.x after 19 k’s in WR pace is something totally different from being totally pumped after less than half the distance in slower than WR pace.
You have no idea what you are talking about. Seriously. Not even close? How do you know that they talked about not being able to finish after 19k's in WR pace rather than not being able to finish despite walking, or not being able to finish because injury etc?
Does it give you some personal fulfillment to pretend like you know better now when you knew how it all unfolded and can challenge athletes on whatever they said did before the event? You do it time and time again.
He will finish the season with world records in the 1500m (3:25.7), Mile (3:42.6) and 5000m (12:31.1 with a big negative split). He won't attempt to lower his 3000m world record but will be capable of low 7:16.
He will win the 5000m at the World Championships in Tokyo in the 13:08-13:12 range and I'm going to predict a silver medal in the 1500m in 3:28.2. He has fantastic closing ability but can't seem to truly get his tactics in the 1500m just right.
At the World Championships post-race interviews he'll allude to trying a 10000m or two next year (a time trial and probably for the European Championships), but will still mainly run 1500m-5000m on the circuit.
All of this to go along with his indoor 1500m and Mile records and European Indoor double and World Indoor 1500m win will make 2025 a banner year for him and athletics in general.
Armstronglivs will continue to pollute every Ingebrigtsen thread with 0/10 trolling attempts because god forbid one of the best track runners in history have fans and ignore all of Jakob's feats throughout the year and focus solely on him narrowly losing the 1500m title, in addition to having to walk during the Copenhagen Half Marathon from last year. He can't use the 12:48 argument anymore as Jakob has run almost 18 seconds faster than that. When many point out his wrong predictions and inhumanly stupid remarks he will say you're obsessed with him and an egotist like Jakob and Trump.
Justanothercuriousdude will have essay length comments that don't really go anywhere and will say he's a fan of Jakob yet all posts are critical of him and will continue to support Armstronglivs 0/10 comments.
I don't think he will bother with the 5k record this year. He can go after that any time the next few years. There's a clock on his 1500 abilities though. I assume that's the focus. Similarly, Jakob is SO European that I don't think he cares about the mile record (he calls it the 1609 meters)...He'll run at most one mile outdoors (Pre, I assume)

So you think they talked about Jakob being pumped before half ways as an option, when one of their (Jakob’s) other options was (not ruling out) winning in a new WR? -Yes, I’m speculating, just like you.
Why are you so aggressive and use words like lies unnecessarily. Don’t you know that people have different impressions and opinions? Armstronglivs may have read f.x this interview with Filip one day prior to the Copenhagen race, link:
Here Filip is saying in Norwegian: – Jeg tror de andre blir sykt nervøse når Jakob er på start her. Jeg tipper de tenker at deres mulighet er å springe veldig hardt fra start. Det kan også bli deres akilleshæl, sier Filip til VG.
My translation: -I think the others become extremely nervous when Jakob is on the start line here. I guess they are thinking that their options are to run really hard from the start. That can also become their Achilles heals, Filip says to VG.
Yes, Filip says a lot in different directions. And Jakob too -the latter wouldn’t rule out that he could win and set a WR in that HM race in one of his pre interviews (although he also stressed the possibility of blowing up). So all in all I think Armstronglivs has a valid point here, as he often has when one consider everything he says in his posts.
Because he is objectively wrong. Philip said 50-50 chance Jakob DNFs. The interview does not say what Armstrong claims.
Whatever you think he has said, has it made Jakob run any faster?
I'm expecting that you'll soon be arguing he was "sick". Why would he have entered an incredibly demanding race if he wasn't properly fit? Is his vanity so great he thought he could succeed on poor preparation and fitness? Probably.
They probably offered him a bag of money and he figured he could get paid to put in an intense sunday long run to end the season.
I'm sure he thought he'd have a better result too, just as fisher probably expected better than 7:49 in his final 3000 of the year.
He's always paid to turn up; he's a professional athlete. Vanity is the more likely explanation.
Fisher wasn't drawing attention to himself, running outside his distance, like the Norwegian narcissist was.
