All the hate is sickening. Really- so many young "men" who are so full of hate over two people that they really don't know is just sick.
But, let's say for a minute their reasons really are just to self promote.
OK, they're STILL creating an opportunity for runners to accomplish something.
I don't think they're planning on actually making money off of this, they want to help resurrect the 10,000 run.
I'm a nearly broke retired guy and I always thought that if I had the money I'd love to do something to create opportunity for young equally broke runners who are trying to make it in the sport.
”we feel that having the race at a big stadium is what these athletes deserve, having races at a high school track with pacing lights isn’t professional” Des
If your goal is to do good for the sport and create opportunities for athletes, why take shots at others that are providing opportunities for athletes? Because that is not her goal.
If you're going to quote someone to make a point, it's important to get the quote right.
"It's about feeling special and feeling important and feeling professional. You can go to a high school track and get a good deal; bring in the rail, bring in the lights, and save a lot of money. But, it's always going to feel like you're on a high school track."
I personally don't think she's taking a shot at anyone here, but I maybe I'm just biased.
The real issue isn’t a high school track vs a college track. The real issue is that they'll never get top runners for this race by holding it in a venue that often has a lot of wind.
A top runner only runs 2 or 3 10k's per year and those runners aren't going to waste one of those 2 or 3 races on a race where they'll probably run slower than they would like because of wind. If the promoters insist on holding this meet in the LA area they should have chosen a different venue.

This is a fair point since I am indeed a bit concerned about the forecasted wind. I am really hoping it will die down after sunset and be manageable during the race. If it's awful though, and really slows everyone down, then I do hope they would be open to moving the race elsewhere next year.

She's definitely taking a shot at Sound Running and The Ten, but it's a very successful annual event that gets world class talent on that "high school track."

I would hate to say this, but I think a lot of the blowback they get on this website is due to misogyny. Just calling it like I see it
I dunno, Chris Chavez/Citius get a LOT of flak here for similar “look at me” behavior, and theirs pales in comparison to these two (really Kara in particular, which now extends to “look at my son”). I think it’s cool they are trying something new (why not?!), but the fields and overall setup look underwhelming. Hopefully I am wrong and these folks put down some amazing times!!

NAU Redshirt Jr Cael Grotenhuis looks to break 28 min for the first time. He could be the man for the Lumberjacks in the Fall if he continues progressing.
It’s disappointing to see the absence of top talent in these races. The organization by Kara and Des has not been well-received and is resulting in a lackluster event. Mt. SAC will likely be deserted tonight. While the concept is promising, the leadership is clearly not appropriate for this meet.

It was a bad concept from the get-go. The Ten is the predominant 10,000m qualifier, and everyone decent ran there.

Looked over the participant list for these races and it seems like top talent must've taken a vacation. Kara and Des, are both the not the right names to headline a meet. Especially Kara. Making the meet about themselves, dragging the charm out of the event. At this rate, the only thing you’ll find at Mt. SAC tonight would be tumbleweeds. It's a neat concept, you can't deny that. But no one in the running world respects Kara. It's a colossal failure

To whatever extent Des & Kara have been preoccupied with other endeavors and in general part-timing the leadership, one can't blame them for being unable to pull top athletes away from GST, The TEN, DL, NCAA commitments, recovery from Spring marathons, rehabilitation from injury and more established & lucrative 10ks on the road. Savethe10000 is just kernel of something that will hopefully mature into a more compelling event going forward. As a supporter of distance running on multiple levels, try to enjoy the performances on display. Tonight's competitors have limitations, but most grind just as hard as Des or any Olympian.
You turned off the interview because she misremembered a fact? Sounds like you need to touch some grass.
FYI. Seoul hosted the Summer Olympics in 1988. See how easy it is to make a simple mistake?
My mistake was a typo - she forgot women's running history or didn't know it.
This garmisch girl may be a little special. She’s so “knowledgeable” yet forgets that NCAA athletes have to hit regional marks, thinks that teams care about team points at regular season meets.
Dunno, the other threads she posts on speaks for themselves.

Yes, how awful of them to put on a 10,000m race with pacers for both the world championships and US championships standards. Also a combined prize purse of $25,000. This is clearly a terrible thing for the sport and they're both awful people.
GST prize money: $100,000 for the winner of each event group. Money for all. Kara and Des go home devastated.

This. The LRC bottom feeders have zero clue to the realities of the sport today. This event has a specific role on the calendar, it's not everything to everyone and to expect that is patently stupid. It's better to have this opportunity than to not have it.
The 2025 Save the 10,000 with Des and Kara will be broadcast live from Walnut, CA on Saturday, May 3 via RunnerSpace.com. The broadcast is made free to all to view thanks to Brooks Running.Broadcast Schedule. Subject To Chang...
