I think Jakob will adjust slightly.
He'll need to be more cautious on first lap. He may really try to blast them for 1000.
But his instinct essentially is always to try and run as fast as he can. That works a lot easier when you have a rabbit in the DL.
The question is if you coached Jakob how would you tell him to race it?
the OG final. Jacob did not run according to plan, and went out way too fast. so with more balanced pacing it would have been a dog fight in the stretch, and one of the other boys would be without a medal, and I'd toss a coin on who would win, and give Hocker the edge actually.
now with Jacob perhaps a second better this year and the others one or more second better, drafting these guys all the way, you have to be 2 seconds better at a minimum too pull that off, and this is not likely the case now.
for the win Jacob's going to have to run in the field to 1 km, and the pace may be slow, and this works into the kickers favor, then again, Jacob will have his kick too, instead of running it out of himself.
rabbits set the stage for a fair race in the sense that the field doesn't group behind Jacob
i'd like jacob to sit and kick on those free loaders as one plan, and the second going from 500m out at 52 pace and see who's left, of course that is in a mundane race where the field has no guts to share the running at the front.
