Usually don’t listen to this podcast because I find it so annoying but may have to take a listen based on this thread.

I’m a big fan of Ollie who has listened to the podcast religiously and it has seemed for quite some time that his current state is largely impacted by confidence/mental state. What is more concerning is in previous years he’s been an avid believer in OAC and Ritz which seems to no longer be the case. What was confusing to me is that he felt he wasn’t ready for a 3000m…..you’d hope any 1500m athlete who has completed base training in full should be able to perform reasonably at an indoor 3000m without needing ‘specific’ sessions (isn’t that what the indoor season is about…?). It’s not like he was in a 10000m….he seems confused and his lack of interest in training methodology (he has stated this multiple times on podcast) will hurt if he doesn’t believe in his coach.

He'd mentioned a few weeks earlier that his speed was coming back well post-injury but strength was taking a little longer. So my take on this comment was that he hadn't done the aerobic volumes that Ky and Dylan had. And if he's feeling underdone in terms of strength, then throwing him in a 3000 was probably a bad idea. I'm assuming he couldn't get a start in the mile?

I feel for him, he's clearly a guy whose emotions tie in strongly with performance, for better or worse. He's gone from top miler in that group a few years ago to further down the ladder. That might fire some people up but maybe it's not good for Ollie. I'd love to see him run for OAC Oceania...but I can't see him leaving the US for now.

Like that would stop anyone from joining a team and getting a contract. If they even knew what the dynamics were to begin with. Your sarcasm fell flat

Him and Ritz clearly don't mesh. I'm guessing Ollie's sticking around because his best friends are on the team and that's hard to let go.

(Should he grow up and treat his job like a job? Yes, probably. But that's another thread.)

In the same podcast, he had a week from Boston to Millrose and somehow didn’t have a chance for prerace the day before due to getting a “haircut”?

Or Ritz was trying to protect him a bit. Olli now says in retrospect “oh it would’ve been great to go under 3:50 at Millrose.” But there’s a real chance he’d go out in 1:55 with the field, blow up a bit, run 3:52-3:54 and finish a demoralizing 9th or worse. I can get Ritz wanting to avoid another sort of 1500/mile result like that.

He sure seemed confident with his "We have to race each other or we'll get soft running against the Americans" statement... Hocker, Nuguse, Kessler all missed seeing Hoare in the semifinals, let alone the finals were Americans went 1-3-5...

Good for Ritz. I think it's a very fair question to ask an athlete you are coaching. Ollie shouldn't have blasted the conversation to the public, but, he seems to love drama. He has no problem critiquing others groups, coaches, athletes but he can't handle any constructive criticism.

I may have missed it, but nothing he shared sounded "private" to me. I assume I did miss something, but just want to be sure that this whole thread isn't needless pot-stirring.
