Basically anything having to do with Brooks Beasts. Theres been some weird crap going on in that camp. Pasted from another thread:
" I won't be able to provide too much detail on these, as most are from a few years+ ago and I'm just a regular message board browser like the rest of us, so I don't have any inside info but I'll go through them and add a little more:
- Capriotti (head of Nike T&F) and Danny got into a heated argument at 2015 (?) USAs. Will Leer, who was attending but injured got involved and sided with Danny, which then led him to being effectively forced out of his Nike contract the next year and he showed up to the 2016 trials a complete shell of himself and went out in the first round. There's an interview on Youtube where Leer talks about the stress of the contract situation and how it ruined his season. He doesn't mention the Cap vs Danny thing but the timing seems like that started the contract issues for Leer. I don't remember if it ever came out what Cap and Danny were arguing about but the main point is it got heated and others had to intervene.
- Danny's cryptic instagram post is actually a sad one. This was more recent but still a year or two ago and he posted something about "seeing the devil" and described this very ominous sounding situation that stirred up a lot of speculation on the boards. It eventually came out that his partner, who he had just had a baby with, had taken her own life and he came into the house to find her. Obviously a horrible situation and one that made the ominous and cryptic nature of the post make sense after. It was still a little odd to make that post on his public instagram when it was an intensely personal tragedy but given the situation I think it's fair to say he wasn't acting or thinking normally and maybe felt there was some explanation needed without getting into the horrible nature of what actually happened.
- For Allie O, she was asked by Brooks to take time away from the Beasts to get help for her eating disorder. I have always heard this phrased as Brooks asked her to get help, rather than Danny but I'm not sure how he was involved in that decision making. This one has a happier ending as Allie took that time away to get the help she needed and has been a lot healthier since, even making a great return this year at the trials.
- Spencer Brown, the Athlete Special on Youtube, was a runner for Georgetown who graduated in 2020 with PRs of 3:59/3:39 and a 1:49 800 but never got his 5th year track season. He was offered a one year contract with the Beasts to train with them and make videos about it to see if he could cut it as a professional. As someone following him at the time, it was really cool when he announced it. Unfortunately, it pretty much went wrong right away, as he got covid shortly after joining up with the team and throughout his time he never really was at the level of the rest of the Beasts. Apparently this didn't sit well with David Ribich and Josh Kerr, who made some comments on their Sit & Kick podcast. I called it "beef" but I think it was more just their frustration that this "youtuber guy" was getting an opportunity they didn't feel he deserved on running merit.
- The last one was just that Nick Symmonds was on the team from 2014-2017. He wasn't making silly Youtube videos at the time but it was a big deal because he signed the season after getting Silver at world champs and he'd been running great on the circuit all 2013. But, he was 29 when he signed and he definitely showed that he was an aging runner with Brooks as he got injured after 2014 world indoors and didn't run the outdoor season after. Then he rallied in 2015 to win USAs after a string of terrible races leading up, but then he made a big stink about USATF and them letting him wear Brooks gear, so he didn't go to worlds. A young sophomore from Akron took his place named Clayton Murphy. Then in 2016 Nick had some ankle problem that kept him out of the trials completely. He came back for 2017 USAs because he was able to qualify by being the defending champion from 2015 but he got knocked out in the first round and ran like 1:51. He made a big show of his retirement and then transitioned into Youtubing along the way.
Phew! I think that's everything about the Beasts/Danny that I can think of. Sorry to take this intermission from talking about Houser but hopefully people find these items interesting and it gives some context to what I said earlier."
Also, Luke Houser. Still no answer about what happened with him.
From Gault:
"FYI, I reached out to Brooks, who provided the following statement:
Luke Houser was released due to a code of conduct violation with the team and will no longer be a member of the Brooks Beasts nor a Brooks-sponsored athlete.
I followed up with Houser's agent Ray Flynn, who didn't have much to say on the matter. He did not discuss what the code of conduct violations were and said Luke was trying to figure out his plans moving forward.
Will update if I find out anything more."
