Shoe tech, track tech, drug tech have moved forward and we see that in the results.
We are in a golden age of track (especially mid distance). The last golden age we had was in the EL G era of late 90s early 2000s before the EPO test was created.
So tech becomes the elephant in there room. We know it’s corrupt and questionable and are scared to say something about it. Only the morally gifted people which number 1 in a million are going to protest.
None of us want these tech. It was raped upon us. We didnt give any consent. You can take back all your tech. I’ll just stick to the lilies and butterflies in my garden.
Cross country on grass sort of removes the tech. Notice how the high school champs times at Balboa Park haven’t changed nearly as much as track times. Winning NCAA cross country times haven’t changed much since the 70’s.
So either today’s runners are really bad at cross country relative to their track times or track tech is causing disproportionately fast track times.
Bruh when is enough is enough? How far do you want tech to invade our sport which is supposed to be 100% natural? Do you need a quantum teleporting chip to be stitched into your underskin that will vaporise mass into light waves and tunnel you around the track to a 0.00000000001 second new WR for 3k? Is that what you want bruh? I will make you my Guinea pig come on down here!
Move over shoes. I have you a new age quantum teleporting chip, a time machine that can upload your mass into the future and give you insane running velocities. You want? Let me know how stupid you are.

Settle down. Faster performance due to technology isn’t new.
The thing that is new is the denial.
People used to have perspective. Now they want to claim the technological advantage as athletic superiority.
It’s ridiculous. The shoes coupled with the denial is erasing the sport’s history.

Great response bruh! Jokes on you clown - I already have a quantum teleporting chip.

I wasn’t joking, I was rebuking and chastising with love. And you don’t know what is a quantum teleporter. You are a highly immoral person who doesn’t know how to be the master of your own tools and instead allow them to overtake you and make you conceited.

Do we ever hear fisher telling the media “I want to donate my medals and winnings to the destitute kids of Somalia because I didn’t achieve the results I did honestly. I cheated with shoes and had I used canvas ones I would have faltered and disappointed.”

The shoe technology improvements in the past few years have probably been the biggest innovation in distance running in the last 60 years I'd say.
For road "supershoes" the scientific data is just crystal clear as done by efficiency studies. The writing is on the wall.
Sure there are other factors involved probably (from possible newer PEDs for some to marginal gains from bicarb, other legal supplements, more competitive athletes/talent pool, slightly more specialized training focus, media and social media hype for motivation in general) etc.
But the recent shoe tech alone is very, very significant imo. It can allow for better/more efficient high intensity training and recovery too. If we correlated a huge uptick in improvements of track times across the board (from pro level to college times to even high school runners) can we not see the timing of this?

Proof that it’s the shoes and tracks is that we’re on the cusp of a long plateau of stagnant times.
I guarantee that times will level off in the next year or so. Then it’ll be a bunch of speculation about why aren’t runners improving.
Then the next miracle material will come along and all of the sudden there will be another period of big time drops.
Of course, it will be chalked up to better training and better nutrition.
I guess everyone in the field is simply the best of ALL time. Or just barely off. Makes so much sense to me. Aouita, El G, Coe... those guys wouldn't even make the final. Nor should they. Slow MFer uncs.
For comparison, it's forty-four years since Coe set his outdoor WR of 3:47. Fourth-four years before Coe the outdoor mile WR was 4:06. It's twenty-seven years since El G set his outdoor WR of 3:43. Twenty-seven years before El G, the WR was 3:51.
Really all that's happened is that shoes, tracks, and training have finally caught up enough to start surpassing the full-throttle EPO times of 25 years ago. For the next 20 years, WRs will be broken fairly regularly, just as they had been for the 150 years before the full-throttle EPO era.
Not that Nuguse and Hocker aren't a bit sketchy.

to me if it was shoes then you'd have the same old spread just faster at the front. if the pack is together at faster speeds then the runners themselves are better.
At no time in history has there been so many people so close to the lead times in the world at that point. Every week there is a new name in the 1500,5k, 10k.... And they are running records, the global death is insane compared with any other point in history.

The same old spread just faster at the front is exactly what you are seeing. Because if it’s the same old spread the back is faster too.
Super-spikes aren't nearly as important as super-shoes.
For middle distances, bicarb is a game changer.
As for coaching, I don't think it's so much that the best athletes have access to better coaching than was available in the past, at least at the highest levels. I think it's that good coaching is so much more widespread, all the way down to the high school level. If you think that the depth is crazy at the pro levels, look at how much faster D3 conference meets have gotten in the last 20 years. When everyone in the country is training more and training smarter than they used to, you should expect to see that reflected at every level. By the time people are going pro these days they're WAY further along in their journey than was the case when I was younger. They're immediately competitive, instead of hoping to develop for another few years and become competitive.

ya, coe ovett cram were anomalies goat.
today its deeper though, and better training aerobically.
with all the other advantaged on top you mentioned we will have or have
a masters age 202 marathon, more than one
a womans marathon in 207 208
a 147 800 guy run 141
an 18 year old run 328 1500 or better
etc.
with that said , people are having a very hard time to exceed coe el G bolt.
it is what it is.
thete seems to be some semblance if fairness in the 1500 however. i enjoy it.
