I have more respect for Mantz after watching him race yesterday. He was in another class above the rest of the Americans. I think the US marathon record will last a while longer because the top Americans are stuck in the cycle of running Boston/New York, occasionally Chicago but they don't run fast there. They don't seem interested in running London, Berlin or Valencia. At least Ryan Hall ran London a couple of times.
How can the most slow ass untalented athlete out of high school and out of the junior ranks not too long ago be running 59:17 even on super shoes when prior to that probably 10 other more talented and super fast Americans between 2007 and 2024, Chris Derrick included, my favourite, all couldn’t so much as break 60 or even 61 supershoes or not!!
Connor as a 19-20 year old was struggling to complete a 10000m track race at I think USATF Juniors or equivalent in only 30:30 or 30:40 and you are telling me with that talent foundation he manages to run 59:17 many years later as an adult professional when Chris Derrick, Shadrack Kipchirchir, Wesley Kiptoo, Leonard Korir and many more American mercenaries from Kenya far stronger and more talented than Connor all couldn’t break 60 or even 61?
Really guys? I’ll hang myself right now if I got it wrong but I know I haven’t!
Connor’s absolute and relative space-time has been found wanting baby!! 😓😓
You’re gonna upset the byu fanboys. Has he been recently fighting an “injury?”
Good job. I feel like AR will be a minute faster in a year. WR about 57:17 later in 2025.
You must be thinking Grant Fisher is the ~58:17 guy. I wouldn’t put that past him on a great day in Valencia or something like that, but I seriously doubt he’d run that fast on debut in Houston, which is where he’ll most likely go.
I’m dubious of the 57:17 too. Since Kibiwott Kandie ran 57:32 in 2020, the WR has progressed to 57:31 (2021), and 57:30 (2024). I would say that 57:17 was conceivable for Kiplimo a couple years ago, but his debuting in the marathon this spring makes it more likely that his fastest half is behind him (and this is even more true for Kandie and Sawe). The most likely 57:17 guys have to be Kiplimo/Kejelcha/Aregawi, but it’s just really freaking fast, I’m not seeing it.
Kejelcha can this year or next. 26:16 road or track- 1298pts= 57:17 hm.
Mantz has another 45 seconds in him next couple of years. 58:32

Instead John, I’m all for Weiny Kelati now! I did a brief 5min scroll of all her space-time performances from 2012 to present day at all events 1500m to HM and I was so thrilled out of my gut that I met my match!! Meaning I finally found the American with a legitimate space-time history and progression in the sport, a girl to boot notwithstanding! I don’t really follow girls sport but somehow destiny had me scrolling through her WA profile!
Trust me when I scrolled through her world athletics profile I went into it with a cynical and skeptical heart, constantly thinking to myself ‘damn she has to be doped as well because she is American and Americans are increasingly getting dirtier and dirtier’.
my subconscious mind was running the dialogue in my head using American nationality and citizenship as a prejudice or bias tool. Meaning I was full on bias, ready to continue being bias against Americans but little did I know that my subconscious dialogue could gradually changed stance the more I scrolled through her profile and performances. I wasn’t even aware that my stance on her had changed until the end of my scrolling after 5minutes of deep thought and rumination weighing all her space-time particulars to see if she is really doped!
My conscious mind lagged behind my super advanced subconscious intelligence by at least 5 minutes so to speak! Which is why LRC can trust my subconscious mind to dole out accurate analysis because it’s rooted in the right moral and ethical traits and further moderated by knowledge of the laws of physics!
Thus this was my train of space-time regarding the Americana Weiny Kelati and how I came to fall in love with her space-time!! Truly, she is the one bright spark in a sea of otherwise questionable American performances! It also doesn’t hurt that Weiny has the classic beautiful running biomechanics that East African women have come to embody, so her trustworthy performances do accompany a stamp of approval from very suitable running technique.
The same can’t be said of Connor Mantz whose untrustworthy performances are rather stamped approved by equally dubious and tedious running technique! That’s not how a truly clean and gifted distance runner runs!!

Yes my good Lord, I’m always at your service and disposal in all humility. I only keep the sport clean, I don’t play games or troll on LRC. My well kempt posts speak for themselves.
Good job by Mantz. Solid effort! Watched the "Road to Houston" videos. Mentioned he had a niggle or issue come up and was told to not run for 4 days, and he stayed off his feet--probably helped him recover...
He has the potential to do great things. Someone mentioned about Chez...Mantz did beat Chez in a few races -- watched the Boulder-Boulder where he beat Chez. Definitely has the potential to get better, and cleanly at that.

Couple things. First, how does he not know about the prize distribution. If he had a properly interested agent, who was getting a cut of the prize and sponsor bonus, his agent would be letting him know about the different bonuses on the table before hand. Second, he's losing a simple opportunity to hold up his water in a Maurten bottle, or whatever. Get this guy on brand.
He's either being really humble or he should be making a lot more money.

He used to be with Ray Flynn, but Mantz's USATF bio doesn't list one now. Clayton Young was also with Flynn for several years but decided after the Olympics to go it alone. Perhaps Mantz did the same thing?
Well I want national records to reflect the best runners in those nations. I can’t speak to other countries, but it’s not easy to become a US citizen. If someone is willing to go through that lengthy process just for love of my country, I am just as happy to see them set an AR as I am for someone who just happened to be born here.
I basically agree with you. In most cases, it is not really an attempt to "game the system" and I am fine with it.
It is a little different if the person doesn't tick any of the boxes though: childhood, coaching, high school, college, training partners, diet, lifestyle, training group, environment, social norms, expectations from parents, etc.
If none of those are American, how "American" are you?
If Kipchoge became an American, would it be useful to say, "the best marathoner of all time is an American." That would be factually correct, but you can agree that it doesn't hold any actual value for a person trying to learn about the sport generally and American running specifically.
Perhaps it’s technically possible to become an American citizen without any of the items on that list being American, but it’s hard for me to fathom, given you generally have to live in the US as a lawful permanent resident for at least three years before naturalizing. Did you have an example in mind? Certainly neither Khannouchi nor Lagat would fit that bill (I believe you mentioned them in your original post).

Lagat was clean because I know James Li is also super clean. And Lagat’s behaviour, speech, body language in space and time together with his performance trajectory all fit the bill of CLEAN! Both him and El G and Ngeny all clean, get it?
I don’t like how people think Lagat’s A sample was dirty and then conclude he is dirty or a cover up. There would have been sufficient space-time evidence to back up a truly dirty A sample if it was really dirty!
Lagat was from the era without mobile phones and other RF tech, thus had the longevity he clearly enjoyed just like Haile Gebrselasie, Kenenisa Bekele and all the 1990s and early 2000s greats!
Mantz: "This gives me the confidence that I can run with some of the top east Africans...They're always shooting for the stars. Probably 30 percent of the time it works but I'm gonna need to have that attitude if I'm going to compete up in front."
Letsrun posters often lament Americans being satisfied with top 10 finishes or similar. Too conservative, I see people write.
Bucking those trends, Mantz says publicly he wants to challenge the world's best for the podium despite the risks.
That doesn't sound like anything I ever admitted. I'm not sure any PED even exists that would make peak half-marathon performance for any national class male supernaturally faster.
