About 8 years late on this one Johnny.
Yes, good point. If he had retired 8 years ago he could have done 8 extra years of normal work at a desk like the rest of us. Instead, he had to just run a bunch of fun races all around the world and get paid for it by his sponsors. I can see why you think he screwed up on that one.
Oh wait, I just checked. He crushed a 3:55 mile in 2024. That was literally less than a year ago. What about way, way, back in 2023? A long time ago in 2023 he sucked. His best mile was a 3:51.
I can see why you think he should have retired sooner... If I had run a 3:51 mile in 2023 I would still be jogging victory laps!
Here is his progression. He never really had a "terrible" year like some guys do at the end. That is a solid, super-consistent, clean set of stats right there!
- 2015 - 3:57.47
- 2016 - 3:55.27
- 2017 - 3:53.15
- 2018 -3:54.53
- 2019 - 3:49.98
- 2021 - 3:54.01
- 2022 - 3:55.93
- 2023 - 3:51.82
- 2024 - 3:55.53
