First invites of the season are finally here- will be fun to see where everyone is at and some good head to head competition. Looks like a few Idaho schools will be at Oregon Relays (CDA, Mountain View, others?) and then lots of schools at Boise Relays. Should be a fun weekend all around!

Who is talking about Timberline being a podium contender? T-line has nice points in the sprints, relays, and 800... and that's about it. They have 0 boys in the top 10 in their district for hurdles, jumps, and one thrower inside the top 10. It's really hard to win a trophy if you look like you won't pick up points in more than half the events.
Timberline is really far up on the drop down lists on the 1600m, but then again they are the only school that has actually been at sea level so far this year. That might change quite a bit over the next two weeks. This weekend should be pretty telling on if they will actually be competitive or not, though.
The depth is super nice, but 4:27-4:30 boys don't move the needle in track anymore. It's a shame they graduate 6 of their top 9 in the 1600. 4:35, 4:36, 4:36 gives them a great top 3 looking forward to next fall. 4:55 and 4:59 for 4 and 5 means they have some work to do on that front, but there's a lot of season left.
What is Idaho thinking? Do they not want to be great? How does Idaho even do a track season without Arcadia?

What a rambling, incoherent mess. Why would I need to check to see if Timberline has raced each week at elevation when we are talking about a season that was two weeks old at the time that they went to sea level? I see that they are going again next week to Pasco.
Rocky, Mountain View, and Boise are all objectively better teams than Timberline. Rigby and Meridian probably are, too. Even if Hudson Lewis and Ethan Kirkendall pick up other events, it just pulls away from their relay teams where they are needed. I'm calling Timberline for 6th or 7th at the state meet.
And no, 4:27 doesn't move the needle when it takes faster than that to get to the state meet and takes way better to score. I also have a hard time believing that a boy that ran 4:36 and 9:57 at sea level and lost in both efforts is going to suddenly find 20 seconds.

Nick Janecko (their top 800 guy) has been running 35 mile weeks all winter according to his Strava account. How do they expect to improve doing so little. I see them struggling throughout the season. Their 8th man on the cross country team, Will Cox, has arguably had zero positive growth. This team is stuck in a rut that I don’t see them getting out of in time to make a push as state contenders.

Ah, my bad — wrong name. I meant Daxton Wilson — the kid turning heads this season in the 1600. There’s something different about him, something you don’t coach. Watch him race and it’s obvious: the fire’s lit, and he’s not backing down. His progression? Speaks volumes. The mile time has been dropping faster than a squirrel on espresso — and that’s not just hype, that’s data. So no, saying he won’t move the needle? That’s not analysis, that’s arrogance. Might want to check your take before it checks you, because give it a month and we’re talking sub-4:20 territory. And if that doesn’t start putting Timberline in the contender convo, I don’t know what does. But sure, keep counting them out. Just don’t act surprised when Daxton’s charging down the final straight at state while your “objectively better” teams are wondering what just passed them.
I don’t enjoy hating on high school athletes… but they can’t come on LetsRun and dispute the facts. According to athletic net Timberline just got gapped in the DMR, blowing a thirty second lead. I doubt Janecko breaks 1:57 after this. How can anyone argue timberline is making forward progress. I wish them all the best for the rest of the season but these expectations are just not realistic.

Cervi Skinners both go 9:01 for full 2 mile. I have to wonder if these two are a little burned out. They've ran 9:01/9:02 for 2 mile indoor as well, both times are slower than their alleged pre season time trial split, and don't stack up to their Woodbridge placement/time at all. Still very fast time in light of Idaho's history, but a bit less than you would expect.
Stadtlander wins 3200 at Boise, 9:07. Sheesley 9:13 for a great run, Knutsen continuing his impressive trajectory at 9:22. Cody Lucas notably back at 9:27. Rocky's Jacob Thomas steps up big time to run 9:27 as well - Could be a piece at Districts/State.
Heemeyer edges out Taylor for the 1600 win, 4:56 to 4:56. 4 other girls with a sub 5:10. Really fast times for Idaho girls, what's the state record? Taylor strikes back to beat Heemeyer over 3200, 10:40 to 10:46. Both lightning fast times for Idaho girls. Taylor with a nice 1 second PR. Heemeyer 8 seconds faster than her HOKA time, technically like a 20 second PR with official times.
