There are many obvious reasons he is a bad pick. One that gets me is that he is such anti-vax and yet Trump played a big role in getting the COVID vaccine started. And was vaxxed himself. Maybe Trump forgot.
As with any government agency, HHS could use some fixing, but he is not qualified to do it. What makes anyone think he can manage an agency of that size (leaving aside the nature of the work)?

Not poison our food, but taking fluoride out of the water is a really, really dumb thing. So would making vaccines illegal. (There is a difference in not requiring and not allowing.) Also most vaccine mandates are done by states and it would take legislation and that is not going to happen.

RFK is incredibly JACKED/SHREDDED for a 70 year old guy. Even at his age, he is in the top 1% of alpha-fit men in D.C., and it's not even close.

My only concern is that he will flip the food pyramid upside down and all of a sudden everyone will want to increase their meat intake and we will all have to pay for it. As if inflation wasn't bad enough as-is already.
About the only thing that I agree with him on is his stance that many of the foods on the shelves of stores are ultra-processed and shouldn't be. That said, is it really the role of the government to do something about that? Should the government really be regulating this?
Remember the uproar from the right when about 10 years ago Mayor Bloomberg tried to limit the sizes of sugary soft drinks that were sold in NYC? I believe that humongo soft drinks are ridiculous and really bad for overall health but is that really something that the government should be involved in monitoring?
One of the reasons ultra processed foods are cheaper is the farm bill. It inadvertently subsidizes corn (and soy), so the excess has to be used somewhere. Ends up in high fructose corn syrup. So rather than having a role in ‘regulating’, the farm bill should be updated to eliminate incentives that adversely affect population health.
The food industry operates the same way the tobacco industry did in the 70s-90s… make a toxic, addictive product, advertise like crazy (especially to children), and scream about “personal choice and liberty” when govt gets involved. My opinion on 64 oz soda buckets is “yes. They should be banned.” Similar to my opinion on seatbelt laws. Yes… it could be a “choice” not to buckle up, but some stupidity and recklessness are easy and necessary to eliminate.
I have never heard a rational, valid argument why we dont need the CDC and what Fauci did that was bad. All the critics point to conspiracy theories and reference changes in CDC guidance with COVID. (Which would be normal with a novel virus)

There's some positions that don't really have a defined set of qualifications. It's not like being a general practitioner or a department manager at the mall. Imagine Mark Zuckerberg being told he couldn't be the CEO of Facebook after inventing it because he wasn't "qualified". Or Elon Musk being told he can't be CEO of SpaceX because he only has a bachelor's degree in physics.
And while I don't agree that RFK is the best fit, I find it odd that everyone Trump has picked is being held to such standards of "qualifications" yet when Obama or Biden picked people, nobody cared to question anything.
A strange double standard that people are using more and more these days when they don't like someone or they get emotionally invested in one side of something.
