One other thing about Colorado -- feel bad that Kole Mathison's enormous talent is being wasted by a coach who has no idea what he's doing in Boulder.
He developed Dylan Jacobs and Danny Kilrea and Yared Nuguse to great finishes. He really didn't have any returners to work with outside of Isiah Givens so I'm sure it'll take time to gel.
Yeah Washington did much better than they were projected to. Props to the men for stepping up today and congrats to the women on their win. Hopefully both teams can keep building momentum.
Is everyone else just sand bagging or is BYU just that good?
BYU is good and ran against a very weak field today. BYU is a podium team and didn’t face any other podium teams at this meet. When they face Kenya University cowboys it won’t be pretty for BYU. The cowboys will put 4 runners in front of Casey Clinger.
Well last year for 10K Ok St had a 1-5 spread of 20 seconds with the top guy in 4th. NAU last year was 32 seconds. BYU 1-5 was 38 seconds today for 8K. There is "that good" and "that good".
If we're using OK state's performance at nationals as the standard for "good", then no team's been good since 2005.
or NAU of last year, or OSU of 2022, or NAU of 2021.......

Agreed that OK State is far better. As much as I hate the way they do business, its legal and they've taken importing talent to the next level.
But Iowa State and North Carolina aren't exactly "weak". #5 and #6 in the polls and they got manhandled by BYU. So is the gap between podium teams and the rest that massive, or did the they just not show up?
It's not easy being a cross-country fan, but it's even harder if you're a fan of the Badgers. I took off of work to catch the meet but they can't field anyone to run an 8K? As a fan, I do appreciate all the teams that actually made it out here. I know nobody comes out here to deliver a fan experience but you all did and the races were great. We'll have a big crowd lining the course for you in November.

My take: Iowa St and NC were not at full strength at this meet AND in my opinion are way overrated at 5 and 6. Also the podium teams are a large gap over the rest of the field. Ok st, BYU, Arkansas and Texas Tech/NAU have the depth to distance themselves over the rest of the country.
To host your own meet and not even field a team is ridiculous. They ran 3 in the B race. Why not just take 4 more guys who haven’t ran yet this year and have them use it as a workout? At least the home fans get to see their team even if it’s a workout. I’d be furious if I was there today.
It’s more than time for Byrne to go. This isn’t even bringing up his inability to recruit or his awful team management/training (peaking for Big Ten not Nationals).
Sadly, this won’t change. The AD only cares about money and as long as they keep bringing in money hosting home meets, then team results don’t matter.

The diffeRence in quality be Okl St and Iowa St isn’t that humongous. bYU just didn’t sit anyone out. Also James Corrigan jumped 40 places in second half which is a strong sign hes feeling his way
I don’t think UNC should be number six. All of Wake Forest runners outside of Luke Tewalt were sophomores, right? Way more untapped potential. Tewalt is also a former all American.

What's crazy is that BYU has probably done fewer workouts than anybody else in the NCAA. They're also probably doing way more easy mileage. Most are around 100 in six days. They started workouts in August and only did one pretty chill workout each week for the entire month. They've only had a few weeks of two workouts and even those don't look that hard. Compare that to all these programs doing double-threshold and crushing training early. A lot of these guys are probably already cooked.
