You really are thick headed. As previously mentioned, Jakob set a new Norwegian record in the 10k. The old one was 27:39. Which was the icing on the cake to at least try to keep up until halfway through the race. Reason enough?

This aint exactly rocket science. The goal was to test the half marathon to see how the body would respond. This meant competing for a top position as much as possible. Starting slowly wouldn’t really provide any answers. Setting the Norwegian 10k record was a milestone along the way.

All of that is in your own mind, which you've just projected on to Ingebrigtsen. It's like saying a runner enters 5k and runs flat out for 3k, is gassed and then shuffles home - "to see how their body would respond". Bollocks. I don't think it was his plan to completely exhaust himself by less than half way and then be reduced to a walk, like a hobby jogger. He thought he could go with the best and greatly overestimated his ability.

You’re quite the mind reader. A far more logical goal would have been to shoot for a 59. It’s likely he actually believed he could run sub-58. Why would he want to hang with a pace knowing he would end up jogging the last half? Running a race that way is unpleasant and somewhat embarrassing.

At this very moment Jakob got 162 k likes on his Instagram post– for reference Cole Hocker got 103 k in his first post after becoming an Olympic champion. Jakob is just that popular and this is why he’s making more money than the rest of the 1500 circuit combined.

If you didn't see that before, that was kinda a big thing before the race that was said a few times. Clearly he knew there was a good chance he wouldn't finish. I'll say that again. FINISH. Why would he think he'd break the world record you buffoon, he didn't say that was his goal good lord.

We’ll, it’s late in the season and he probably needs to adjust his training for 10,000 at some point, but to assert that the 5000 gold medalist can’t be world class in the 10,000 is absurd. It’s like saying he can’t be world class in the 1500 because he can’t kick well enough to medal, when, in fact, he IS a 1500 meter runner and probably the only one who might scare the WR.

No doubt the 1500/3000 is his sweet spot, but, minimally he was capable of sub-27:00 on the track. With some minor adjustments in training, he can extend his 5000 greatness to the longest track distance. Now, he may never be world class at the half marathon on up, that is true.

The only thing we learned that whoever makes up his team totally let him down or they gave him "Sage Advice" and his arrogance or hubris kept him for listening to that advice. He should have waited until December, trained up and debuted in Valencia. Had he done that we would be having a different conversation and he would not be so discouraged to say he won't do this for another two years. It was foolish for him to try this 2 days after a track race and the fatigue of a long season. He suffered for this misadventure and gave his detractors plenty of ammunition.

Ingebrigtsen for sure cares a great deal about what some internet warriors and wannabe know-it-alls have to say on a miserable forum, right?

You can hardly find a more visible proof that he couldn't care less about what outsiders might think, and that his only focus is on following his inner voice in the pursuit of continuously becoming the best version of himself as a top athlete.
