If Kerr thinks he can run faster than 7:17, he'll go for it.
He's a big boy and can make those types of decisions.
He'd probably want Ingebrigsten in the same race to use for help...so that's unlikely at this point.
Why are so many people in this thread implying that Kerr has said he can break the 3k WR? He's always been quite humble about his performances above the mile. Even after he broke the indoor 2-mile record, he said in his post-race interview that 7:54 is different gravy. In interview after the Olympics he was asked about moving up to the 5k and just laughed about his PB. He knows very well that he's primarily a miler who can also run a very good 3k.
Nobody is implying that Kerr himself has said he can break the 3,000m WR. We're responding to the moran author of this thread. (See title)
Honestly, love him or hate him, most people have to admit that Jakob is a racer at heart and good for the sport. It might bite him in the arse sometimes, like the 2 mile world best about two and a half months before Worlds. But he still gets after it and cashes in that fitness he's built. Hell, a few days before the 3000m WR, he ran that 3:27.83 in Lausanne.
He's got kind of a big mouth, but the dude gets after it like no one else around right now. And I appreciate it since I want to see the elites duke it out on the track more than just two or three times a year since heats and semis don't count.
