Congrats to Grant on a great season, maybe the best by an American distance runner ever? (Depends on whether you count 1500 as distance I think.) Stoked to see what he does next year
You've never heard of Billy Mills, Bob Schul or Frank Shorter?
I guess I think of the modern era as having started like 40 years ago, when East Africans started competing in earnest. I’m not sure how to compare now to 1964.
Probably Bernard Lagat’s 2007 season was the best ever for American distance in the modern era.
Which race did you like most? Women's 10000 was fascinating for me - I was in the stadium. Also men's 800. Impressive. It was almost like looking from above. The stadium is so steep.
The women's marathon was unbelievable. I tried to follow the leading group on bike at the end, which was not possible. Just 15 minutes after the race I heard that Hassan has won. It made me almost to cry.
What were your impressions while following the races? Did you enjoy them?
Like you, I thought they were largely unbelievable, but for different reasons.
Incredible...the most miserable troll on this site, getting trolled himself. And this counter-troller doesn't even need an ounce of negativity to do it; they just enthusiastically describe their enjoyment of the sport, ask friendly good-natured questions, and let the troll expose themselves. The troll's hostile and snarky responses end up revealing much more about him as a person than even his original trolling did. Masterful. We should all be taking notes.
Ehh, I don't think it's that big of a deal. He must have peaked super hard for the Olympics and came from absolute hell to get the 5000 bronze. The dude is probably just fried.
But I also think that the season should end with the Olympics. It's always struck me as weird to run Worlds/Olympics and then keep going afterward. No other sport does that and I think it would help track to seem less amateur if they copied the NFL/NBA/soccer in that regard

I have never concealed the fact that I am no longer a fan of the sport. I do not enjoy it as fans do today and chiefly because I see what you don't.
