Watching late as this morning was mostly just repechage rounds of sprints. Excited to see Ramsden get through. I did not have her on my bingo card for that stacked Heat 2.
For the most part, the runners' post-race comments were more interesting than the racing on the track, although it should be noted that 3:53 runner Birke Haylom was awful and ended up in the repechage round. Hull has an inter...
wouldnt be surprised if Nikki wins the heat....she cocky that way
She ran smart. I think she and ESP are going to surprise. They are both sitting on more 1500m speed than we have seen so far. ESP was not tapered at all for trials, and Hiltz never seemed to be all out when she won the final. Can't wait to see how this plays out.
I also thought Muir looked strong. On her best day she should not be overlooked. She was in that first tough heat and looked relaxed and easy.
Yeah Hassan closed in 8:23/4:02/2:34/59.0 for a time 4 seconds faster than ESP’s PB. It does not feel to me like St. Pierre would have been in the running for bronze. The top 2 Americans were 15 & 17 seconds behind Hassan…I reckon ESP might have been 7th or 8th.
At her best I think ESP is as good as Batocletti or maybe slightly better. Top 3 is a stretch but good bet for top 5.
Perhaps, but I think Batt-woman did something totally beyond your previous conception of her as an athlete and is thereby skewing your view on how tough it’d be to place top 5. Respectfully.
Can we get the mixed relay results updated for the prediction contest? This might be the only time I ever make an appearance inside the Top 30 for picking Bol and the Dutch over the Americans
Damn Emily was struggling at the end. Not looking good.
I'm hoping she had a "Nuguse first round" and will rest up for semi and knock it out like he did! I would think with nerves, stadium energy, etc., that hot pace was a bit of a shock to the system...but she got thru nonetheless!

You might be right but I still have that memory of ESP's 8:20 win earlier this year over Tsegay in the 3000. Batocletti was uniquely great yesterday though, certainly her best race by far.

It's a little bit of an unfair comparison. ESP's best event is probably the 3,000 with the 1,500/mile an extremely close second and 5,000 a good chunk behind (good as she is). Batt-woman's best is the 5,000 with 3,000 and 10,000 next and then we get to the 1,500.
I think there might be an inclination to overrate strong 1500m runners in the 5000. It's fair to think highly of them in the 3000 but the 5000 is another matter.
