Interesting to see and hear a confirmed drug cheat speak .So obvious that this is a dishonest person, this interview just shows how arrogant she still is .
I find it odd that you have such contempt for Shelby. Yes she appears to have lied and then stuck with the lie. And yes she appears to have been someone who tried to get an edge with a banned substance. But she is still a person who probably did it because she felt unworthy and she probably was greedy too. She is likely not a worse human being than most of us. IF I were in her shoes, maybe I would have considered doing the same. And many of you would have too. But her sticking with the lie is because she feels she will be ostracized, not realizing that lying probably makes the ostracism worse. She deserves a 2nd chance at life, even if not at world class running, as that ship has likely sailed. But she can be national class for sure. She is flawed, and we are too.
I have no appetite for this "flawed anti hero" narrative for Shelby when others who doped like Regina Jacobs, Ruth Jebet and Rita Jeptoo were not given that same grace.
I find it interesting that you think by "sticking to her lie" she is trying to avoid being ostracized, when in reality, she's getting this much backlash from people because she IS still lying. People hate being lied to. That's what they are reacting to.
When Floyd Landis and Tyler Hamilton came clean about doping they were not ostracized by the public. That was when the public showed empathy for them and saw the human choices. They were damaged goods in the cycling world either way so who cares? If Shelby told the truth, I actually don't think she'd face as much vitriol as she does now.
I'm sure Shelby's choice to dope stemmed from insecurity. Most bad choices stem from insecurity. But I'm glad you acknowledged her greed. Again, this isn't some athlete who had no other choice but to run. It wasn't the difference between food in your fridge and not. She was a college educated woman who could have chosen another path.
For all the empathy you give someone who made a conscious choice to cheat, remember there are tons of flawed runners who don't dope, don't get any glory and walk away. Look at the back end of a results sheet. Those are people who had high hopes, talent, work ethic and dreams. Look up Sinclaire Johnson, Katie Follett or Shannon Osika. Those are just two runners who lost titles or US team qualifications to Shelby. Sinclaire was 4th again at a sketchy Olympic trials. Of course we don't know what she's doing behind closed doors but how much would it suck for her if she was clean all this time, and we know she already lost one major opportunity to a doper...
Let's hope she gets wildly booed for her lying and cheating and her sis never gets a college job again. She should focus on trail runs and getting a JOB.
Why her sis getting attacked? She is just related to her so no need to drag her through the mud as well.
Does she board cats? I know some people that make really good money operating a dog kennel and doggie daycare, but I didn't know that concept existed for cats.
