I will cut her slack, but I will not cut you slack for saying most of us were crying or on the verge of it. Maybe I am a sociopath or something, but l felt NOTHING other than the excitement of seeing a great race with a close finish. Why would I cry over this? Is this some kind of a joke I am missing out on?
Yeah...you might want to check into that.
I suppose I might but wouldn’t it be safe to say that the vast majority of us were not crying or on the verge of crying? I mean what the hell was there to cry about?

A running message board is NOT the appropriate place to treat someone who might suffer from autism or sociopathy. We are not qualified health professionals.

OK so you balled like a baby over the men’s 10000m? I am not sure which one of us needs therapy more.
Let's hope Goucher wasn't trying to do a "Vin Scully." How can anyone even think that? Wow! She most likely got caught up in the moment. No biggie. Fisher isn't the first or last to ever win an Olympic Medal. The 'hot shots' at NBC did the right thing. Who needs dead air-time. Now, if they only do something about her mono-tone voice. Listening to Swim Co-Announcer Rowdy Gaines, now there's some ENTHUSIASM!
I actually liked that Kara teared up after the race. You could hear it in her voice. I didn't need a bunch of wise words the minute after the race. Watching the medalists smile and trot around, soaking in the glory, was enough. The fact that she was choked up, said more than words could have. It made me choke up a little, too.
She said on her podcast today that they don't want the "color" commentators talking on the last lap or for a minute (I think that's what she said) after the finish. I suspect that's just to make sure the play-by-play person and commentator are not tripping each other up at the end.

All this talk of Vin Scully - he's the play by play guy! The color commentator didn't speak until almost 2 minutes after the Gibson HR.
In UK we had Cram for BBC and I think it's so impressive that after his glorious running career he has become a superb commentator. One of his DL colleagues has " brilliant " as his default adjective and when he needs more goes lazily for "brilliant brilliant" which I'd argue is not an advance on Kara's silence.
You should have listened to the live call on Peacock. The Brit announcing was sublime as usual. One of the best calls I've ever witnessed in recent T&F
Rob Walker was great on the world feed, with John Anderson. No problem with them.
As far as Saturday's broadcast, Walker, Anderson and Carrie Tollefson were great together, as well as the British guy who was their field event analyst, though Anderson blew a couple of names.
In the morning session, Bill Spaulding was solid, not spectacular. Shannon Rowbury ditto (that said, she should NOT be a in-stadium announcer as she was at the NCAA indoor & outdoor). Dawn Harper Nelson and Darrell Hill were good.

I think Kara should go and listen to the way Sanya Richards-Ross handled he conclusion of the 4x400 mixed relay final. And then compare that to what she did after the 10K final (though I don't think the full version is even available to be viewed anymore, the NBC YouTube highlights edited out the silent parts).
Leigh, Ato, and SRR each gave the customary pause immediately after the finish line. But that pause only lasted like 10 seconds. They then enthusiastically discussed the conclusion of the race. This is how its done.
Someone should tell Lee Diffey that Lasse Viren won back to back gold medals in the Olympic 10,000 in '72 and '76. He said that if Barega had defended his title he would be the fourth man to win b to b 10K's, after Bekele, Geb and Mo. He forgot or didn't know Viren had done it first.

He said he’d be the fourth straight to do it, not the fourth ever to do it.
Kara is the best thing to happen to NBC coverage and I'd stop watching NBC if they stopped having her
Kara needs to talk way less, not more. She was driving me absolutely crazy during most of that 10K trying to stuff useless facts from her notes into the broadcast. Less is more, Kara.
