Second heat was 4 seconds quicker at 800m and ended up with the same winning time. Unbelievable from Kerr. I had it at 52 point final 400m for him. Official splits show 39.03 final 300m.
For my money Mills had about the same race as Hoare. Just did way too much and faded when it mattered (albeit not quite as badly). Both looked out of sorts.

One of the BBC commentators suggested that Hoare relaxed when he thought it would be a struggle to make the top 6, and just saved himself for the Repachage round. Perhaps Ngusue should have done the same.
I'm not surprised that some big names aren't getting through straightaway, the quality of these fields is absolutely insane. Strongest middle distance fields by far in a long time.
He said to Norwegian TV he was extremely nervous given what happened at the Euros and how bad he usually is at tactics in these heats. "Never been so nervous ahead of a race before". So a natural reaction , mostly relief I guess
