Serena and Venus as a duo would also be v possible: 4 golds each over 3 Olympics, and they're from just down the road.

It has to be an L.A. athlete
Allison Stokke
with the way things are going I'd pick either the anti-Christ or Ice Cube
Roseanne Barr or Donald Trump. If Trump, then it will be the BEST CAULDRON LIGHTING IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD.

Carl Lewis or Joanie. My money is on Joanie.
I'd be shocked if it's just one person.
I think a combo pick of both Carl (of whom I have a framed autograph picture on my office wall) and Joanie would be perfect. Weren't there two in France this year?
Yes, good point. Given that there were two for France this year and the US now has two flag bearers, they’ll probably go with two to light the cauldron in LA.
I also love the idea of Carl and Joanie. The only complications with that pair are 1) would they want two athletes from the same generation, and 2) would they want two athletes from the same sport?
I think Carl is the most likely male, so the question is which female joins him. Joanie is a great choice if they’re ok with two athletes from the same generation and sport. If they want different generations, then I can see the second person being Allyson Felix, who would be a great pick as an LA native and our most decorated track athlete. If they want different sports, then I could see them going with Diana Taurasi, especially if she wins her sixth Olympic gold medal in basketball this year.
The only thing that worries me about Carl is he was a prominent part of the ceremony this year, so that might hurt his chances a bit. Considering that, it wouldn’t surprise me if they go with Phelps for the male pick.
I guess having so many legendary athletes to choose from is a good problem to have.

It will already be lit. All of the L.A. area will be choking on forest fire smoke and even higher temperatures than this summer. The end of the Olympic Games, at least in its current format is coming to an end. Brisbane will be the last one.
