Swimming wouldn't be too boring if they didn't have so many events that are just very similar to each other. And while I like all track events, I can understand how someone not into that feels that a bit fewer different distances would be enough.

It's difficult to believe anyone would call curling and golf boring. Both of them involve just the right amount of time between shots for the analysts to describe the intent and the hazards. We hear absolutely everything said during curling, and increasingly so in golf.
You get to know the personalities and the tendencies. The combination of skill and nerves are on full display with even the slightest twitch or miscalculation sending the shot toward wayward ruination.
They are ideal television sports.

I wonder if sports talk show hosts who curling hobbyists spend half their daily air time talking about how their weekend curling matches went.... and spend the other half using curling analogies to describe other sports.
Boring:
T&F 10k, marathon, 5k, mens pole vault
Exciting:
T&F 800, 100, 200, 400, 1500, Relays, Steeple Women PV, Throws
Exciting: Most Winter Olympic events
Boring: Most Summer Olympic events
Bring back tug of war.
Singles, team & mixed team.
No 3 legged gunny sack races though.
Maybe loosen the rules a bit on wrestling and boxing. Go until submission.
Final event of each Olympics. Increase the shooting events to larger distances, artillery and targets. I can think of a few targets that would suffice. Every participating country has to provide one for all others to take a shot at. Accuracy and precision can easily be measured. Intentional misses to hit unintended targets are issued a free penalty shot of choice to the offended.
I better check the DeCoubertin charter on that one just to be clear on the mission statement of the Olympic Games.
