Wetmore out at CU! Who replaces him?

One way or another, Wetmore wasn’t going to be around CU much longer, it would have been magnanimous of the university to let him leave on his terms, but in a world where employers routinely undervalue and disrespect their employees and show them no loyalty, why would CU be any different?
I ran for CU in the late ‘80s’ and supported the program until CU ran Wetmore’s predecessor out of town. I stayed away for years, Wetmore brought me back. There’s no going back this time, I don’t have enough time left. Nothing to do but say “F**k ‘em” and move on to my new life sans CU.
Years from now, CU will be naming something for Wetmore like they did for Jerry Quiller long after they forced him out.

Jefe -- you clearly know nothing about this situation. So your comment about "a couple of disgruntled athletes" being responsible for this is absolute b*sh*. There was unquestionably a culture of body-shaming, particularly involving female athletes, and especially involving Burroughs.

CU needs to swing for the fences with this hire. They need a big name who can recruit all over the world and develop the best and most elite American talent. I’m talking about the Olympics, homie!

She only helped coach two world champions, multiple NCAA champions, etc. But sure, she is the downfall of the program because some fringe level athlete felt they were being fat shamed. You know who really understands coaching female athletes? CeCe Telfer. They should be the new coach.

I suspect CU will go heavy into international recruiting to catch up. That'll be sad as Wetmore was famous for recruiting mostly regional or American kids.

I love Mark. Incredible coach, incredible person. I did the bod pod, maybe once or twice, and voluntarily. it was a good tool to add data for performance, and i certainly never had pressure to lose weight. Its a shame Mark is going. im no sure if its voluntarily or not, im not really plugged in. he will be greatly missed, and IMO he is irreplaceable. To many of us he was, and is, a giant that we still revere and influenced our lives more than anyone.

We ran against wisco back then, they won, we won, back and fourth. I had the utmost respect for those guys, class acts all of them. A lot more than I can say for the oregon team back then, and some of the others we ran against.

I would love solinsky as our head coach. great guy, excellent athlete, seems like hes a solid coach too. I think he gets our traditions and general attitudes as that mid 2000's wisco team was basically the same as us, two sides of the same coin.

It's good to point out that Colorado has performed very poorly for the past few seasons as most of the athletes who want to live in altitude are going to NAU. He is losing the recruiting game.

The dude is about to turn 71. CU haven't exactly been killing it as of late. If allowed to go out on his terms, when do you think that would be? He's got no family. He'd probably keep coaching until he turned into the proverbial skeleton (sans condom).

I’ve never seen a less informed group of people with the list of names.

Chris Solinsky? He is one of the nicest people I’ve met, he is also one of the worst coaches I’ve ever seen. He ran Florida into the ground and was going to get let go until he got a life line at Oregon. This is similar to letting Allen Iverson coach at Georgetown.

Ben Thomas isn’t leaving a director job at his alma mater to take less money at CU.

The list starts with can CU afford them? Do they want the job?

Mike Smith- CU can afford him, no idea if he wants the job

BYU Women’s Coach- CU can afford her, it would be a director job, she’d probably take it

JJ Clark- Paid awful at Stanford, needs a way out of that job

The chances that the job goes to a white male aren’t high. I didn’t think about Louie, but I could see the fit with AD.

They aren’t bringing in a D2 coach to be a director at a P4 school.

He’s 71 folks. You have to know when to leave the stage. I’m older and at least I recognized that it was better to leave on my terms than to be escorted out. Help a program out as a part timer or coach a few individuals to keep your hand in, but don’t be the old fart yelling at the clouds.

OK, suppose you are coaching a promising female distance runner. Her times are very good. Her body fat % is measured at over 19%. What would you suggest that this runner change, if anything?

They had a great run but when kids of notable alums start going elsewhere you might kind of take note. Looks like the admins probably gave them a chance to retire and they didn't go for that, so the contract wasn't renewed.

The articles on RW and FW might be taken with a grain of salt, although there are probably some truths in there.

It won’t be a distance hire. The AD is going to take the safest approach possible. Especially with the Dion nonsense. They will look for as little drama as possible.

I have always thought CU was winning in spite of their athletic department not because of it. The team only got a locker room a few years ago ( the facilities now are awesome just saying)

How much will CU offer him? He made $124K NAU in 2023. Wetmore (who is in the state employee list as "Charles Wetmore") made $170K. Probably worth it for Mike at that difference, but will be offered that?

It seems that Colorado XC runners are trying to get the old NP/UCLA coach Brosnan a shoe in the door with the athletic department. With Jace Aschbrenner having had success under Broanan’s coaching, it is very likely that he will be Wetmore’s successor.
