How are we 5 pages in and we've not brought up the fact that Mu under "mastermind" Kersee is a completely different Mu from the person at the Tokyo games.
I blame Kersee for screwing up Mu with his "mastermind" svengali approach. Shady, drug fueled past for that ass. No one can seem to get busted in this sport (cough, Adan, cough) but Kersee should have been "Salazar-ed" decades ago.
The coach's job is to get the athlete ready to run and run well. That's not just the physical side of things, its also the mental. Mu hasn't been happy for two years now, and had to practically beg her probably borderline abusive coach into letting her race after worlds last year. Its the only time she looked like she was having fun. On the physical side of things, Mu is so damn talented she could probably just repeat her workouts from 2019 and still be the best in the world. But a good coach would have worked on the mental side of things, and Kersee didn't. It looks like, to those on the outside, like he has done exactly opposite of what he needed to do.
Mu was a prodigy, and the growing dislike of her over the last two by some fans is directly tied to Kersee and his sh!tty approach. I could see Mu, after yesterday, walking away and never competing again at this point. she looks like someone who really, really doesn't want to be out on that track. so why would she bother?
Congratulations Kersee. Everything you did failed. You may have permanantly ruined an athlete. Your "limited access" "everything is hidden or a complete lie" "oh, maybe a SI article will be enough PR for us" approach failed. You failed. You failed your athlete.
