There are 8 women with the Olympic standard in the 5000 and only four of them are running the race. Monson injured, Kelati didn't register, Henes scratch, Wayment didn't register. This leaves St. Pierre, Cranny, Andrews, and Schweizer with the standard.
Others will quality based on WA rankings. You don’t necessarily need the standard
If Valby runs only the 5000m she will make the team. Hopefully her team will allow her to choose what race(s) she runs at trials. It would be a shame if she was controlled to the extent Beamish is at ON.
The WA window for qualification closes 30 June, so it is impractical to think a US athlete will be able to qualify with the Standard after the Trials. So if they are actually fit enough to run the Standard, doing so at the Trials would make much more practical sense.
Just last year McGorty, Waskom and N Rogers got there world Q's after us trials; not that unusual.
Also Izzo will be accepted to the 10000 regardless of Katie Camerena. USATF rules say that having an auto qualifier for worlds gets you into trials.
Are you sure about this? Rule 8 states:
Automatic qualification, as listed in this section, shall not abrogate any entry requirements other than the qualifying requirements for a championship. Any athlete who attains any of the following shall be afforded automatic qualification into a USA Indoor, Outdoor, Race Walking or Marathon Championship or USA Olympic Team Selection in the same event in which the performance was attained: 1. Track and Field - (a) During the current or four previous calendar years, earned an individual medal in track and field in an Olympic Games or in a World Athletics World Indoor or Outdoor Championship. (b) Is the reigning USA Indoor or Outdoor champion. (c) Has a World or Olympic ‘A’ Standard that would apply to the current championship team selection. (d) Finish as one of the top three at the preceding year’s corresponding national championship (Indoor qualifies for Indoor, Outdoor qualifies for Outdoor).
I don't see where this applies to Izzo. No medals, no reigning champion, no Olympic "A" standard, not top-3 last year. She is currently within the rankings quota but this is not the same as having an "A" standard.
Her XC ranking should qualify her the same as an A standard, not as part of the 10000 rankings quota. She's listed on the road to paris site ahead of rankings qualifiers in the 10000. This is the whole point of having gone to europe to run a bunch of xc races to get a top ranking and ensure an auto qualifier for the olympics. She gets into the 10000 race at the trials.

It doesn't really matter, anyone who really has an outside chance of top 3 in the women's 5 will be within the rankings quota. Who's going top three outside of ESP, Cranny, Schweizer, Valby, Andrews, Rogers, Morgan, Buchalski, Nichols, Infeld? Smith and Donaghu only have 2 races so no ranking but the two they have are high enough that a top 3 will give them the ranking. A top 3 from Bethany Hasz would also push her into the rankings quota. Those are the top 12 seeds plus Infeld.
