Not convinced Valby is a generational talent...think she is just competing during a weak time in ncaa women's distance running.
What part of breaking multiple NCAA records makes you think she isn't a generational talent? Whether that translates into continuing success is likely up to whether she can stay healthy, but she has definitely got exceptional talent.
Before every track race, my son has to take his spikes to someone who confirms they’re legal. Once approved, they put a pull-tie thing on the laces so the starter knows they’re approved. This is usually right beside the check-in tent.
If the shoes are illegal - 3-inch spikes, shoes with combustion engine ;) - they don’t get the pull-tie.
Not arguing, just stating his experience.
I don't doubt you, it just isn't common practice in our area. I often am the "clerk of the course" at meets and we don't do this...
The "weirdest" shoe choice is usually just the kid in basketball high-tops running the 100m.
The fast kids often wear Vaporflys in the distance races though (if it is dry).
When was the last time she raced someone who could beat her? Or even the last time she thought someone could beat her? Two years ago in the 5000m at NCAAs when she was coming back from injury? She certainly didn't think she could lose to Tuohy at 2022 NCAA XCs with the way she ran. The trials will be a real wake up call, either she wins against the top americans or she gets outclassed in the 5000m final, doesn't make the team then has confidence issues and struggles in the 10000m. I don't think there is a middle ground in the short term. Long term she's going to be fine though.
Valby acted so confident yesterday (ie obnxiously cocky) it doesn't seem like she thinks anyone can beat her ....
seeing this reminded me of galen rupp's special nike equipment
I guess nike sees her as America's next great white distance running hope
Agree, I watch her interviews and she's the female version of Galen Rupp.
For all the speculation re. Rupp over the years -- and the Olympic medals -- he always remained humble. Meanwhile, Parker - who still doesn't even have the Olympic standards in her events -- hasn't.

Yea, Rupp was never that bad. He was awkward and confident, but never that arrogant. Alberto was the one who was an arrogant prick. Valby is already coming across as very arrogant, and she is clearly Nike's new golden girl in distance running.

I assume you are joking, right?
Rupp was raised in the Alberto bubble and got so much hate for his looks, voice, allergies, etc. that he eventually learned to just stop doing social media or interviews. He was reduced, by people on this website, to just using platitudes like, "I'm excited to see how the race goes and I think I am really fit this year." He became boring because if he did anything else, he got roasted for it.
Valby is more childlike. She says and does things that teenagers would say and do. Listen to the interview on the Running Effect. She got scammed out of $20,000 because she is "just a kid."
What was the point of putting the spikes in them? The track was bone dry and it's a 10K so no 'traction' advantage...
Unless they removed the Vaporfly internal plate, the extra weight of the spike plate may have more than negated any advantage from the extra traction. And if they actually did make a specially manufactured Vaporfly without the internal plate, as Salvatore Shatmo was claiming, then the shoe would have been as slow and mushy as that lousy Nikee invincible shoe.
Might be fine for NCAA rules Rojo, but problem is World Athletics can't keep it all straight, as that performacne is now used as part of Valby's world ranking points ( ) which shouldn't be happening................

+1000 hello, people🙄
why would Nike give her a special shoe (and why would she wear one) designed to make her slower ... come on, people. Not saying it helped her a bunch but there are reasons why WA does not allow them. It is within NCAA rules though so fair game.

I wouldn't worry a ton about that. WA has disqualified results from actual legends of the sport for incorrect shoes. See Rojas' bid for a WC long jump standard that got nixed because she had worn TJ shoes. The error in rankings will be fixed at some point.

I like the Invincible. It is mushy. It is for my easiest easy days. :)
It would be the worst racing shoe in the world.
The Invincible was one of my worst shoe purchases ever, particularly for what they charged for it. The foam at the front sagged, jamming my feet toward the front of the shoe, where it was tight on my toes.

That ranking is irrelevant because it is too low to matter. If it did matter, someone could challenge it. Valby will need to place top 3 at the Trials in order to make the team, and her Road to Paris ranking would depend upon the average score of that race and Bryan Clay.

Because it is primarily marketing. She said they gave her ‘options’, and maybe after trying them, she went with them, but the traction to weight tradeoff may be slight.
