Why are some people down in Wayment? She is the only steepler with the Oly standard in both the steeple and 5k.
I don't know anyone who's down on Wayment. she's been the most consistent american steeplechaser the past 2 years. she got 3rd at last years trials but was the only one to make finals at worlds.
I’m a big fan of Olivia Markezich. I would like to see her on the team. I’m also wondering if a long shot like Annie Rodenfels could improve to the point to be a contender.
I’ve been a bit out of the loop. Has Courtney Frerichs retired or is she injured?
Good catch.
Frerichs was scheduled to open her outdoor season in the Steeple @ Payton Jordon but DNS'd.
She's not updated her IG in over a month -- and, has not shown up in any of Pume Elite's IG posts in the same time period where PE's longer distance runners are now based in Park City.
Invariably, when athletes "disappear" from their own social media, they are injured or having other personal issues they choose not to share with the public.
Meaning, they treat social media as a one-way street: you'll know when everything in life is sunshine & rainbows, but give you nothing but radio silence when it's not.
As expected.
To answer the questions posed above: Probably . . . and Yes.
I would bet on Courtney Wayment more in a fast race rather than a US Championship race where the fastest people in the country aren't pushing the pace the entire way. She's pretty vulnerable in a kicking situation.

Yeah wasn't it Coburn who started pushing the pace last year? This year it will have to be Wayment who does it.

Wayment pushed the pace at last years race, Coburn even said afterwards that Wayment was the one who kept it honest. Coburn passed with I think 3 laps to go. It was her and Wayment until the final 400 when Krissy Gear and her patented kick blew past them.
this weekends Prefontaine Steeplechase is gonna be intense, especially after all the injuries. If not for NCAA regionals scheduled at the same time there'd be a lot more college runners entered.
Still think there might be late additions to the field.
CURRENT US ENTRIES: Wayment, Gear, Mitchell, Constein.
Prefontaine solved nothing. still wide open. Gear was just so-so though it's here first steeplechase of the season so count this as her rust buster.
Logan Jolly was a DNF. did she fall? I didn't see race.
The lead women were SO FAR ahead that we never saw any of the American’s finish. (We hardly saw ANY of them during the race at all except the first lap).
The top American was 19 seconds off the winner. Even in a 5000 that wouldn't be good. The US women's steeple is still wide open at the trials and I wouldn't be surprised at 0 American women in the steeple final in Paris.

wow, just watched it. Jolly was the pacer but only lasted half a lap before the Kenyans blew past her. a real reality check watching American steeplechasers going against international talent.
we're on this message board all the time debating who will make the team, but it's like assembling a minor league baseball team to play against the Yankees.
