I've never really liked running.  I did it because I was good at it. Anyone else the same

Imagine all of the people that go to college that don’t like school. They are all taking spots at Universities

Yes. There are some odd posts in this thread. Some posters think runners shouldn't run at colleges and take a spot if they donlt love it while others think talented runners need to do it even if they hate it.

Full credit to you and your running ability....but living at the base of Mt St Helens in 1980, kind of gives you an unfair advantage.

I've been lucky enough to get to know some current and former pro runners, and the percentage that really "love running" is surprisingly low considering how incredible they are at the sport.

I think most of us hobbyist would be shocked at the number of former national champions that haven't put on a pair of running shoes since they stopped competing.

I'm the opposite- I love running and racing, but I'm not good at it.

I was a lousy walk on in college, usually the slowest runner on the team, and kinda felt like a charity case, like the coach only kept me around because I was a try hard, good student, good attitude guy,.

I'm the ONLY member of my high school or college team that still runs. The only one. Everyone else quit at graduation. And I still love it. I race 5ks to marathons. I run a race almost every weekend.

The funny thing is that I have no interest in following the elites. I haven't watched one second of the Olympics so far, and don't plan to. I can't remember the last time I watched a track meet on TV.

I've known some near-elites, and to a man, they looked forward to the day they could quit running with a gleam in their eyes.

I love the whole process- training, racing, all of it. I like getting up to run in the morning. I like looking forward to my next race. I like crossing the finish line, spent but satisfied. I like the whole thing.

Meanwhile, I find watching the pros on TV boring.

I was competitive as a D3 runner on a highly competitive team, and I did not love running. I loved the camaraderie, the exertion and team success.

In high school running was a huge source of esteem for me as my success as a runner surpassed those of peers who participated in 'cooler' sports. For a gangly nerdy and frequently bullied freshman, being the only kid in the class to earn a varsity letter propped me up in a major way.

Just because someone is good/great at something doesn't mean they enjoy the actual activity.
