Just saw one at my gym. guy came in in full sweats and sweatshirt. he started and was wearing one of those altitude masks. look over and he’s running hard. looked back over 10 minutes later and now he is in shorts and tank and has on one of those ice vests.

Practically everyone sitting on machines while playing on their phones.
The creepy guys who are just there to perv on the ladies.
I cancelled my membership during the Covid hysteria and will never go back. I got some modest equipment and can accomplish everything at home that I used to do there, without the human freak show.
Same. Bought some modest gear, flipped it when the shortages started, now have more than we ever used at a gym we belonged to for 6 years.
No circuit guys, phone-watchers, no other sweat, we re-rack the weights. Wonderful!
10 mph is a fairly pedestrian pace. It might seem epic to a gym bro, but guys who didn't even make a college team can run at that pace for over an hour. I'll go up to 12 on the treadmill (the max at my gym) for a bit/few mile.
If its making people uncomfortable, point them to planet fitness. The guy on the treadmill is prob going to maintain a gym membership. The uncomfortable person prob drops hers after january. If it wasn't the treadmill, it would be some guy benching 300. Just tell people you will look into it - but I'd just ignore any gym use that wasn't breaking gym rules or damaging equipment.
If you wanted to run college you could easily find one if you're doing 6 min miles for an hour.
Funny how we've never heard a world class runner call a 6 minute mile slow yet the insecure lr hobby joggers gotta run their mouths.

The freakshow is why you go. It's like a club where you get some exercise instead of drinking and smoking. Nobody actually goes to the gym purely to workout.

If you are one of these types of people at your gym, try to be more modest when you run at a quicker pace on the treadmill. Cut all the histrionics.
Is this a serious post? I am honestly not sure... I have seen videos of women getting mad at men for lifting heavy weights in the weight room before though... Cuz apparently lifting weights in a weight room is bad???

The only reason I pay for a gym membership is for good equipment. If it’s crap, it quickly gets more efficient to buy my own (new or second hand).

Most treadmills will allow you to enter the technician/maintenance mode to set the time limit. A simple YouTube search of that brand should yield some results.

I hate treadmills, but one of my local Planet Fitness recently got new machines. I did intervals on Saturday on one treadmill with no problems, but I did intervals on a different machine Monday and my foot strike was MUCH louder. I tried adjusting my foot strike and the elevation, but it didn't help. It might have something to do with the belt tension. I'll use a different machine next time.
Yeah I don't want to stare at the wall in my basement on a treadmill.
My local gym is nice. Good equipment, the trainers aren't in your face pushing lessons, people actually rack their weights/wipe down equipment and everyone is friendly.
Another pet peeve. I was at the gym a few days ago. There are like 20 treadmills available and I was the only person using one of the 20. Guy steps into the room and decides to hop on the one right next to me for his weekday huff and puff run. I'm thinking there are 19 other treadmills you can choose from - why hop on the one right next to me. Don't people understand the concept of personal space and in these times when respiratory illnesses are a top news item why would you do that ?!! Sheesh.

Points for playing on the 'what women like' trope that always gets engagement on LR threads.
Deductions for bring total BS.
Sweating is not a voluntary reaction to exertion and heating.
People are LESS likely to stare at others when running at speed, obviously.
And nobody is making gestures "like they just won."
The only gesture I make on a gym treadmill is when I put it to 12 mph and kill it with a blown fuse, sometimes taking out neighboring treadmills or even the TV (this actually happened). In the three times I've done this, I did a creative victory dance on the treadmill before walking away from the wreckage.

Why do you even care about old ladies on recumbent bikes. Are they harming you in some way? Does it shatter your illusion that the whole gym should be former 16-minute 5k runners lifting light weights like you?
I just don't get why anyone would care about this. Must be a miserable way to exist.
