She should say f*** it and run the 3k Steeple. She might just be able to make the team in that event. I know everyone will say go run the 10k, but I think that's tougher than the 3k Steeple.
Has she run steeple? I don't think it's that easy to pick up if you're not super coordinated.
She got her hair and makeup just perfect for her heart breaking announcement. I was rooting for her but I found it to be just a little much. She probably produced more tears for this video than the actual divorce she went through.
Hey, be nice. You WISH she were single and interested in you.
This is clearly all orchestrated not only for fanz on socialz but also for the benefit of her agent, to get her to the front of line as a US female elite netting an appearance fee for a spring marathon, London or Boston if not Tokyo. She's coming out ahead on this one and nobody should be bummed for her outside of her family and close friends. She wouldn't be knocking around Boulder if she were actually desperate for cashflow.

I wish Emma didn't wear ridiculously long fake eye lashes, really doesn't work for a close up video when you can see exactly which eye lashes are real and which are fake. Whatever happened to being natural?
I think what people are forgetting is that these athletes are trying to create content FOR THEIR income. Unfortunately sponsorship and being one of the best comes with exposing yourself on social media platforms. I guarantee most of these athletes don’t want to expose themselves in this way. In a way, they have to—with sponsorship $ comes the need for content, likes, follows. She’s probably just trying to do her best , I think everyone needs to stop judging. Athletes like Emma need support not ridicule.
There are often bonuses in contracts for making national/Olympic teams and setting national records. If only medal contenders should compete, then there would likely be only a half-dozen competitors in the women's events.
Making an Olympic team is worth far more in the long run than a one-race payday.
Except that's not the tradeoff. It's more like a 2-race payday, at worst. Sure, Olympians have come back and raced a fall marathon, but ask Abdi, Riley, Aliphine, and Sally about how that worked out in 2021. At least if you run in the WC marathon, you definitely got a real payday (appearance + prize purse) in the qualifier race. No appearance fee at the OT or OG, any sponsor bonus for those is bound to be far, far less than a standard appearance fee plus top 10 prize money. Unless you have a terrible agent.
TLDR: A pro athlete is injured and will not compete. If she finished 4th at the Olympic trials, it would be a similar loss. Recording a video of someone in tears -- with background music seems less organic that w/o music. It makes me suspect that her agent/sponsor/team Boss has a social media person who "thought" this was a good idea. There's plenty of time to train for the 10k.
There was no evidence at the marathon distance to promote or discount Seidel's chances. At least she had won at every level prior. Not so for Bates.
If we compared Bates’s accomplishments prior to this year with Seidel’s accomplishments prior to the 2020/2021 Olympics, there would have been far more reason to be optimistic about Bates’s medal chances in Paris than Seidel’s chances in Tokyo.
Seidel ran the 2020 London Marathon prior to the 2020/2021 Olympics and finished more than 6 minutes behind the winner (Brigid Kosgei) and more than 3 minutes behind Sara Hall. At the 2023 Boston Marathon, Bates finished only 32 seconds behind the winner (Hellen Obiri). Plus Bates has far more experience in the marathon now than Seidel did going into Tokyo.
As far as pedigree, Bates didn’t win at every level but she wasn’t a slouch either. She was NCAA champion in the 10,000, and she finished second and third in consecutive years in NCAA cross country.
Fractured her foot during Chicago. Have not seen her at all running in the Boulder area. Social Media silent. Anyone have any info on how her recovery/training is going?
