Good call here. Was waiting to see him get mentioned. Those Saugus women's teams in the late 2000's early 2010's were nuts.
Does Dana Hills still have the same coaches from the early 2010's. That's a program that was always someone to watch as a contender.
Tim Butler? He has been coaching at San Clemente for several years. So he basically made a positive impact for two CA programs - Dana Hills and San Clemente.
Both teams placed in the top 10 at NXN this year.
Craig Dunn is the current coach for Dana Hills.
Dana Hills and San Clemente are losing a ton of seniors but so are all of the top CA teams.
The question is can Dana Hills reload. They lose 5 seniors but have 2 scorers back, one of which should be contending for a national title.
Walt Lange is a great addition. He is also one of the best coaches in history. Pat Tyson was great at Mead in OR, as well. Bill Aris is a great coach. I forget their names but coaches at Mountain View and Bingham, were good.
The Mountain View UT current coach? I’m sure he’s great. Mountain View made NXN last year. They lost 4 seniors but still found a way to finish in the top 10 at NXR this year. Look for them to get top 3 at NXR next year and get an at-large bid to NXN
Southlake Carroll: Justin Leonard (fun fact: his son is now the fastest sophomore in the country (also faster than all freshmen) and got the last All-American spot at NXN)
I don't think GEORGIA is a strong running state, so it's not the same as winning Illinois state championships. Plus, it doesn't have the same population. I was looking at some of their times and they aren't a particularly deep state as far as competition.
I live in Georgia now. I had to look up Westminster School because I had never heard of it. I have definitely heard of York HS and Joe Newton, though.
Georgia has seven different classifications. When I ran in PA many years ago, there were only two classes - AA and AAA. And the population of PA back then was about 12 million compared to about 6.5 million for GA. The competition is simply watered down here. I think they should drop to three classes max, but I am sure football has a lot to do with it. The state organization can make a lot more money hosting seven state football games than just three, along with seven basketball tournaments, etc.
Coach Tribble won his 30th state championship for The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, GA, in November 2023 (1). Georgia has 11.0 million people (8th largest state by population in U.S.) versus Pennsylvania's 13.0 million (5th largest) and Illinois' 12.5 million (6th largest) (2). A Georgia high school has won the Max Preps Cup for the #1 high school athletic program in the U.S. three times in the last 11 years (3). 2023 NCAA Men's Cross Country Champion Graham Blanks (Harvard) ran for Athens Academy in Athens, Georgia (4). 2023 NCAA Men's 800m Champion Will Sumner (University of Georgia) ran for Woodstock High School in Woodstock, Georgia (5). While you could argue that Georgia doesn't have a competitive high school running scene, the evidence would suggest otherwise. (1) https://www.ghsa.net/ghsa-boys-cross-country-champions (2)

I would include Walt Lange. The coach of Jesuit high school and Matt Strangio in the conversation for best high school coaches of all time. He lead his team to a state title 10 times and will be returning to NXN as a top 10 team (according to Dyestat) this December.
