600k prize money is a lot to ask(i get compared to football etc athletes make so little which sucks) but the prize pot being that big is very generous given its the trials you don't need to incentivise with prize money

It does seem like a lot. It would be interesting to see how the money is split. Obviously 300k for M/F but then what?
It’s odd to me that the host city is responsible for prize money anyway. Shouldn’t that fall to USATF?
Speaking of football, can you imagine if football players complained about playing in bad weather? Everyone would laugh at them! That’s what we should be doing to these soft runners who complain about 70 degrees.
People keep bringing up athlete safety. This is a false premise. There will be zero difference in athlete safety at 8:00am or 12:00pm. Yes athletes' comfort will be affected and so will overall times, but there won't be anyone going to the hospital because of a noon start. This drama was created by people looking for an easier experience and that's it.
what a crass thing to say when not so many years ago, February 2016 the Olympic Marathon Trials in Los Angeles was moved to a 9am start for "athlete safety" (66 degrees at start)
and Shalane Flanagan was destroyed by the maximum effort in the heat, collapsing at the finish line, barely making the podium because she was one of the few people on the planet to have super-shoes at the time
Shalane had to be carried off and don't you go telling me she is wimpy
But the insane thing is Max Seigel and others making this decision KNEW THIS HAPPENED AND SET THIS UP TO HAPPEN AGAIN ANYWAY, they just give zero f's
A) What is the actual prize money breakdown for the race?
B) Does this event double as the National Championships in regards to the World Rankings Points? National Championships for a marathon fall under the 'B' category?
This is classic Max Siegel. He is a master manipulator. He is pointing the blame at Orlando to confuse the athletes and get them off his back. I can just see him and Renee sober faced saying “we are willing to move the start time. We asked the LOC, and they just won’t budge.” Then predictably the athletes go public railing against the LOC. now the LOC has to respond publicly. It’s terrible PR for USATF and it’s all caused by Max’s incompetence, selfishness and greed. This has been going on for a long time but he has figured out how to get enough of his friends on the board and to get Conley to continuously act in his favor as Chair. So there is no accountability, and this is just another news story that will come and go. And he knows this. And he will take that fat salary and the bonuses for as long as he possibly can because he will never get paid like that anywhere else.

Ha! Right. Tell those runners to put on their pads and helmets and get out on the course! If the runners get hot, they should pause their watch, tell the coach they need a play off, go over to the sideline, get some oxygen and a cup of water, and when they're ready, jump back in and start their watch.
if the free market determines that $3 million a year is a fair salary, then such condescending remarks about how much he earns is entirely inappropriate
Now i would argue USATF has horrific non-profit governance. Max's salary and bonus are way out of line for similar sized organization. The non-profit world has standards and norms that aren't being followed. There isn't a profit motive with USATF. It is given a monopoly essentially by the USOPC and Congress and it is using that to enrich the CEO that is wrong.
Wejo, as soon as you’re willing to give up a significant portion of the money that you make, then Max can, too
I ain't no pro and never have been. The only voice I have is my checkbook, and it's why I won't pay USATF dues until I see a big change. A BIG change. If your race requires USATF dues, then I'm out. I can't support this organization with money, and that's what it seems like the USATF is all about right now.
Max gets pay and bonuses based on the sponsors and money he has brought in. That's great for the organization, but when it's done at detriment to the athletes (especially the non-Nike athletes from stories I have heard), then it has lost its focus and vision.
The more pressure applied to Max and the board, the better. It sucks that the athletes have to be caught in the middle.

Dont NFL sidelines have misters and portable AC units and cooling benches too.
Plus the game time is more in line with a half-marathon and actual play time more in line with a 5k.
There is a large number of athletes that are fine with the Noon start. We have been sending emails to both Max and Jon Hughes to share our opinions.
Not a majority. Most want reasonable weather conditions. A 10am start still isn't perfect, but it's better than noon
The ones wanting it at noon are nobody’s like Kelsey Pontius in Jacksonville who seem to think they have this great advantage because they live in Florida. 110 degrees isn’t helping her 2:3x marathon PB to even come. Lose to qualifying or top 15 for that matter.
she has spoken out previously about how it benefits her. I guess benefitting her to finish 20th instead of 25th
If nobody wants to host it next time will they do something like working with a mass participation race to set the elite field requirements to be OTQ requirements and take the top 3 Americans from that? It's less than ideal for sure, but maybe possible if that's all they can get.
