The GoFundMe account has apparently raised more than $100,000. Without insurance that might last a week in the hospital.
How does a night in a hospital bed run up to $15k? This is Pentagon-style accounting here. There are no services or goods being provided in that amount.
I suppose they're making up for people who didn't pay anything, but that doesn't make it any less of a scam.
I'm so happy for you that you haven't had to stay in an ICU recently. My child has several times in the past year and half and it was a lot more than $15k/night.
$100k is unlikely to cover a week long ICU stay for MLR, even with a cash discount.
This is just an observation and not meant to anger anyone. A lot of white women don't age well. Something really goes off the rail in their mid 30s and later. Not sure if it's the fair skin and too much sun, diet, lifestyle, etc. I still remember the 2 most beautiful women from college and grad school. I saw one of them in the mid 30s. Wow. She literally gained twice her weight. Another one I saw recently (in her early 50s) and it's now Beauty and Then the Beast.
Sad to see her family begging for handouts to continue to receive great healthcare.
It's more efficient to have government sponsored healthcare for all like Austria.
Ms. Renton isn't old but families go through this often. Corporate healthcare is great until a worker is let go because too ill to work.
1/2 million to 4 million net worth is enough net worth to go out to eat every now and then and take a decent vacation once every three years, but if one is sick in hospital, 1/2 million to 4 million spends quickly.
How can pneumonia be life threatening? She must have other health problems. It says she has a "rare form" of pneumonia.
Pneumonia is a leading cause of all deaths. It is THE leading cause of infectious disease deaths. Any pneumonia is life threatening. Until the "rare form" is stated, I'm assuming its not rare and has a 19 in its name. Why would you hide what "rare" kind of pneumonia someone has?
I must be missing something. All I see is sun damage on her skin; some people have really sensitive skin and experience photoaging more quickly (people with freckles, for example). The other thing is that she has a crooked smile and a lot of facial asymmetry. When she was young, it looked really cute. I think people may now be mistaking that for some kind of injury or excessive wear and tear.
She looks jaundiced (or horrible bronzer), her hair is stringy and something is off with her voice. It might be dentures, another warning sign. I've watched a lot of "Emergency!" and "Quincy, M.E.," so I'm basically a medical expert.
She looks like she has some nerve damage on the left side of her face. My guess is from damage from a face lift. Women’s hair thins after menopause, especially women (athletes) with higher testosterone. This is why many senior women cut their hair short and perm it… to make it look thicker. I know 55 y.o. women who are on monoxil for balding. The alternative is HRT.
As a teenage competitor, she was putting an insane amount of force into her hip joints. She had double hip replacements at a young age maybe partly due to her elite athletics. She is also 5’ 9” and had 4 babies, which loosens up the hips during pregnancy. She had dysplasia which can be hereditary, this other stuff maybe sped up the deterioration.
I’m sorry she’s in the ICU fighting for her life.
The baffling issues are 1. why she didn’t shell out for health insurance like the rest of us, and 2. why her family started a go fund me page. If they got her to the ICU and the hospital said, “We will have to deplete all her assets” and the family freaked I would say, “this is exactly why we all need at least catastrophic insurance.”

You meant 4'9".
People make choices with their money they believe are rational choices.
I see people in nice new vehicles with rotting teeth. I am baffled by that decision.
I am baffled when I see adults sending their kids to expensive private schools but can barely afford to do anything due to private school tuition.
Due to prior health issues, health insurance, most likely expensive. Four kids and 2 or 3 million net worth may sound like a lot, but one nice house and most of the money tied up in real estate, certainly she did not feel rich prior to illness.
She did not endear herself to many due to how she behaved during the Larry Nassar investigation and trial. She did not come out in support of the abused athletes. Instead she supported the shady business of USA Gymnastics to try and sweep it under the rug. She also lobbied Congress against passing a bill to protect athletes from sexual abuse. This is her true legacy.

White women, on average, live about years longer than white men. I guess men don’t use enough sun screen either. How are the best looking dudes you knew in school looking these days?
