Early season, I bet noone has done real work for a speed course. Just like every year. By year end the top runners will be faster at 5K at Nationals than they were today.

NC State still takes it without 2 of their top 5. Chmiel always shows up in cross. Stephens impressive as heck.
If Tuohy had run and came in 2nd or even 3rd, NC State wins by almost 20 pts. If everyone stays healthy, plus Tuohy and even a 80% Amaris, who is beating them in November?
So, it was a sit and kick race? lol
Very good result for Stephens, who hung on better than Hartman in final K. Different years, but interesting she ran basically same time as Tuohy and Steelman did in 2021. Potential to be a very solid 5th (assuming the expected top 4 are the top 4).

I mean you can look at the splits just like i can. 13:05 for 4k for the leaders which is ~3:16 k's average and Lemngole closed in 3 flat for the last k.

Hartman in 9th but I expected her to be a bit higher.

I expected Olivia Markezich to challenge FTW but still a good showing.
Learned a lot.
Nc state will stay #1.
Stephens and Hartman will be very good at #5 and #6.
Quarto and Shulz battling evenly for #7 spot.
Bush just not fully fit yet.
This is very promising, as 5-7 better than expectations.
For Bama Lemngole showed she is a contender.
Note Dame despite big squad really only showed 5, so not deep. They can still get better for ACC meet.

last year was a much better field pushing runners along. A title challenging New Mexico and a deeper at the top Alabama were there.
For what it's worth, Lemngdole closed 3:00.4 running 16:05 and Tuohy closed in 3:00.2 running 15:50 last year. Lets see where everyone is in a couple of months.

its just not a very good field, i'm not sure what your expectations were. Only like 4 of these teams are expected to even make nationals and this race is the rust buster for a lot of those top runners

This is the right take. Clearly she has more. How much more we will see at SEC I expect.
It is a long season. We never really know who has what left. That is the fun of it.

What is going on with Olemomoi, Markezich? Surprised they did not finish higher.
Agree about Olemomoi & Markezich but it's early in the season. Markezich, in particular, has run well over the past year and I expect more out of her.
Tuohy was 15 seconds faster on this course last year but comparisons year-to-year are relatively meaningless.
I mentioned Hartman earlier but I kind of expected her to be NC State's 2nd and be in the top 5. A good showing from Leah Stephens, though. This is Stephens' & Hartman's 1st XC season at NC State so they'll get better.
