I’d be shocked if this WASN’T true. Shoe companies SHOULD be offering her “major offers” CONTINGENT on her leaving her current coaching situation and disassociating from the Johnsons. That’s the best and most likely way Wiley leaves her abusers. Sadly the Stockholm syndrome is likely too strong as she is still incredibly young. I’m rooting for her to leave and when/if she does I’ll be rooting for her success.

When it was first announced that Addy was staying at HU, her mom made a long post about why it was the right decision for Addy. The post had a small part about who I’m assuming is Lauren, she just said “coach.” She said Addy “has a coach she has known and trusts and they have proven that they have a special chemistry.” So I think it’s safe to say at least her mom is on board with the whole situation.

This makes sense to me. Would also explain why the Johnsons remain together after all the adultery. One goes down, they all go down.

Reality is that if they make shoes they have made an offer to Addy Wiley. 359.18 and 1:57.64. You should be fired if you didn’t make an offer and you work in the running shoe industry!

It takes time to sort through them all. Make counter offers. Allow time for them to be considered. Receive and review their counter offers. Counter again, taking the best parts of each deal and presenting them to the companies you liked the best. Allow them time to consider. We will likely know for sure what is happening in a week. But I assure you, MUCH is happening.

When you see someone go pro quickly it likely has to do with a much longer process that you were unaware of that has been going on behind the scenes. There is also usually a deadline looming, such as a Usatf national meet leading into a World Championships or Olympic Games that show companies want the athletes signed by. Addy has no deadline upcoming meet here unless Nike makes signing her by Pre a priority.

Ok. Good luck with that contract. They knew they were signing future medalist with Mu and Sydney. With Wiley they get nothing but bad karma.

I take it back. This is a chance for Nike to make amends. Sign her and get her out of college running. Penitence for NOP, BTC, etc.

You guys are right. Addy should totally have left Lauren and Huntington to run for Mark Wetmore. Who had a long term relationship with a former athlete and staff member working under him. But that ship has sailed. Now that she is going pro which upstanding moral pillar do you want leading her career? Mike Smith, who is married to a former athlete? Jerry Schumacher who is married, but spends a ton of time with Shalane on the road? Danny Mackey? Need I go on?

At the end of the day you all have to admit you only hate Lauren because she coached at a small school and landed a big recruit. You don’t want Addy to have a coach with better morals. You want her to have one you are used to seeing sign top talent. I suggest you start adding Lauren Johnson to your list as after coaching Addy to 1:57.64 and 3:59.18 I wouldn’t be surprised if others seek her out.
